Winterizing

Hi everyone,

I'm a new owner - will be picking up my Hurricane 31S next week and driving to Florida from home in New Jersey.

I've been watching youtubes on winterizing for when we come home from Florida in January. I'd appreciate any tips or information or knowledge that anyone's picked up on winterizing. If the dealer was close, I'd take it back there but its a 150 mile round trip so I should learn and feel confident that I can do it myself.

Is it a daunting task or is everyone comfortable doing it themselves?

The steps for your Hurricane will be similar but the pictures of where stuff is will be different. In most cases there is an inside panel near the water heater that you can remove to get access to the bypass valves. The drain valves are usually near the water tank.

It is a fairly simple process to do and only takes 15-20 minutes. You just have to be thorough and not skip anything. We've been RV'ing for over 15 years and I've winterized myself every year..

Before you take delievry make them show how to winterize it

To build on another response, have the dealer point out the exact location of these items:

Hot and cold water low point drains
Water tank drain valve
Water heater by pass. Have them remove the drawer or access panel so you can actually eyeball the three valves.
Whole house water filter if one is installed
Winterization kit if one is installed. If this is not installed consider having the dealer install one before you take delivery.

If you have a residential refrigerator also have them show you where the ice maker water shutoff valve is located.

I looked at the specs for the Hurricane 31S and see that it does not have a residential refrigerator but it does have the outdoor kitchen.

Like the outdoor kitchen in my Challenger, your Hurricane should have a second set of low point drains in the drawer below the sink in the outdoor kitchen. Have the dealer show you those drains as well.

As a note, unless Thor has changed models again, the outdoor kitchen refrigerator controls and plug must be accessed from either a drawer or access panel inside the coach. Have the dealer show you where this access panel or drawer are located. You may want to unplug, or turn off, that refrigerator during the winterization process.

The hose connection to the water pump under the dinette seat is smaller than a normal hose?? I have a thor 29M and love it! HELP!
