Fill an gaps with Dicor and then use Eternabond Tape over it and you will never have to worry about it leaking or ever have to worry about resealing with Dicor again.

I forgot about Eternabond tape! I used that to secure my solar cables to the roof to keep them from flopping around. After two years it still looks new. I keep a roll of that in a storage compartment for emergencies.

A big THANK YOU to everyone for the help and replies. We made quite a few notes of things to get and learned a few new things.
So here are photos of the end result of what my husband did.
He put a piece of fiberglass & resin over the hole, then finished it off with ProFlex. Hopefully that'll do the job....and hope whatever the wiring is for we won't need in the future!

If anyone sees anything we should be concerned about, feel free to chime in!

The fiberglas is far far better than I would have done.
Congratulations.

Looks good. I hope you removed all the silicone since silicone will not even stick to silicone without a primer. For all who need to remove silicone, I used Silicone Calk Remover, water based. I scrub it with a plastic brush after removing as much as possible with a flat bladed Xacto knife. It will release all the silicone. Great bond afterwards. Otherwise, so lone as the calking goes beyond the silicone, it will have a water proof bond. This stuff is great on removing silicone calking in showers and bathtubs also. I never use silicone in showers or tubs. What I use is flammable and need to vent for two days, but makes a tight clear almost invisible seal.

I was about to order the above linked stuff but their disclaimer says:

Not recommended on painted surfaces, non-colorfast materials, or fiberglass, acrylic, or plastic/composite tubs and showers.

Do we know differently?
