Wreck in Pennsylvania
I saw in Pennsylvania over the weekend big pile up on interstate from sudden snow storm. I counted four large class A wiped out. CNN

Hopefully they were of the very few A's with airbags.

That was maybe 50 miles from here and similar thing not more than a month ago in that area. Needles to say it was a big topic on the local news and even made network as well. Road didn't open up until yesterday closed for 36 hours.
In one of the video's there was a class A and it looked like they had stopped and kinda looked OK. Amazing how people will drive into poor or no visibility without even slowing down. One video showed vehicles stopped someone out along the road and then came a car at full speed right into the stopped cars etc. and knocked a vehicle around the person standing there.

It takes some REAL "high level" stupidity and lack of BASIC common sense to continue walking around in a crash zone!
Get FAR up into the woods behind trees - use your cellphone to make a 911 call. AMAZING!!

You find a like minded big guy and it goes like this:
'Ill take left lane, you take right lane. Try to stay on line with me. Tell them to get out of their car, head for the edge and then 100ft or so. If theres no edge, herd them forward, then move on. If they can't get out let me know and we'll rip that fn' door off.'
If you hear more crashing, holler, jump the guard, then move back in.'
If 10 small groups do this, fewer people burn to death.
Support a place you don't care about overseas, abandon those closest to your location.
Virtuous thoughts vs virtuous action.
(Being the 100th call to 911 doesn't do much)
Just a harsh thought about bystanders.
Nothing else.
Not aimed at the poster, aimed at the flank of society that steps back instead of steps up.
Step up.
I hope you never hear:
'My wife couldn't get out of the car...and you just stood there'

The rv's should have been commandeered as light triage and communal health and welfare sites.

Some of us will Try to rescue your trapped mom..even as the cars roll in.
This will get taken down because it is perfectly the thing to do and it clouds those who don't do the right thing.

I have a good friend who's been a "big city" firefighter for many years. They are trained to evaluate/recognize situations where successful rescue can be executed SAFELY without further loss of life. Although some may think it's heroic, running into a burning building which is collapsing (or equivalent) goes against the rules of common sense - AND training.
Americans have been subjected to far too many fictional Hollywood films where the "hero" always seems to succeed. Unfortunately, that's not always the case in the real world. Further - "thoughts and prayers" is rarely found in rescue training manuals.

Firefighters aren't there yet.
Fitefightrer are stymied by traffic backed up.
I am not stymied by location and I am there now, as needed.
My safety is secondary to a kid in a burning car, tantamount at worst. Will I reach into the flames? When there's no other choice...yes. Will I jump into the backseat fully erupted? No. I'll move on as my value to others dictates.
Call me fictional.
Some run towards
Some run away.
The prayer should be for those who helped.

We came upon a multi car/truck/trailer/RV accident back in 1986
It is a sight we will never forget and certainly wasn't the first or last deadly accident to witness
Safety should be the first thing on any drivers mind when you take the wheel and begin the journey
I haven't tried to keep count of the multiple collisions this winter however it seems like there have been more than typical in the past few months

I would just like to add my two cents to the topic. First I live with in an hour of where this incident occurred. It was a sudden snow squall and if you’ve ever been in one, there is no warning! One minute it’s clear next minute you cannot see 10 feet in front of you. 6 people died and all were burned beyond recognition! You cannot possibly stop an 18 wheeler or RV on a dime especially when the snow makes the road slippery. Now add the speed all these vehicles were traveling >60 miles per hour and you have the formula for what occurred. We are currently on the road for our first long trip and we were in Texas where 85 is the speed limit on some roads. We had a near miss in construction when the sign to move over from two lanes to one was very short notice and the speed limit was 60! The car in front of me slammed on their brakes so I also had to. Thank God my toad blue ox brake system worked perfectly because I’m sure I laid rubber on that road stopping. If we keep upping the speed limit we will be seeing more of these incidences. No place is so important that getting there faster but dead is worth it.

so sad! just watching those you tube video's. Can't imagine witnessing this.
That's all i do now is look way up ahead (nice vantage point), keep the rear camera on, and triple check prior to changing lanes. Leave lots of distance in front of you, plan a long stopping distance. Keep the faith...
As soon as i see a traffic stop ahead. I hit the flashers for those behind me, anything i can do to help...

80 vehicles 6 dead in the total. There was a similar pileup a few weeks earlier in the same spot I’m not sure if anyone died in that one. I think it’s funny how these people on their tablets and phones turn into super heroes as to what they would do. I’m not sure how you can rip a door off a car wedged between two big rigs. But that’s just me thinking out loud.

You're not sure because you've never tried.
Had you have ever past tried, surety wouldn't be needed because chance would have been taken.
Many make that run towards, many return.
When an argument can't be made, a personal swipe is made, a generalization is made specific, and a very narrow circumstance is added... and a bystander justifies, and keyboard commando is mentioned...as they keyboard commando themselves, trying to justify their proud stance to stand-by.
I've seen people stand by.
I saw a chinese tourist and his wife wade right into the mess on I 40 as natives stood by.
I've seen the nurse climb into the wreck with no help from the bystanders.
I've seen someone recoil when someone else tried to hand them an injured child.
Congrats to by standers.
Pray there are 10 of us there.
Everyone prays for us to arrive.
No one prays to have more on lookers.
I'll bet there were dozens of us there.
They'll not do the interview, they'll not tell of themselves.
But a bystander will...and they watched...and spell their name for the reporter, and have their friends watch the tv news that night to see them say:
I've never seen anything like that before...i was so scared....
All I say, all I ask:
If you wish your kid wasn't burning in a car, try not to let someone elses kid burn in a car.
Step up.
Do your societal duty.
Do your best to be best.
Some of us will gladly take many stitches on our torn flesh to save your child's life.

Retired ER doc, 35+ years, a med director of a 50k/yr visit ER. Be safe, be helpful. Learn the basics, which serve you well. I’ve (sometimes reluctantly) raised my hand multiple times on the airplane when the purser/captain has asked for help. That represents no danger to me and has pretty much always has been rewarded with thanks and personal satisfaction, and occasionally a stash of those little liquor bottles that sit around in your cabinet for years (no Zacapa Rum in those damn things.) Do the right thing.
