We picked a great time

Of course everything looked just hunky dory when we initiated this plan. About 6 months ago we decided to return back home to Washington state from Florida. We sold our house very quickly and started making our moving and travel plans.

So now here we sit at our first campground in St Augustine for a week while the dust settles from the house sale and then we hope to start drive our Four Winds 26B north and west. Keep your fingers crossed. We sure picked a great time to be homeless!

Phil

Think positive. As long as you have that MH you aren’t homeless. In fact you are prolly better off parked on BLM land somewhere than stuck in some metropolitan area with bunches of peeps. Considerate it a lifeboat on today’s sea of uncertainty.

We are staying positive, washing often and gelling in between. St Augustine is normally not a place to be self quarantined for a week. It’s all good, got my wife, our dogs, guitars and banjos. We are traveling in style!

Check your route carefully before you travel. Many states are closing rest areas on interstates and since these were nice stops for rvers some extra planning is in order.

Resisting the urge to make a joke about banjo playing and social distancing

That’s how I plan on keeping folks away! The banjo is a magical instrument.

Yes it is but for extra protection you might take up the accordion as well

Things are changing back to normal here in southern Calif. Our Costco had re stocked and did have some limits on certain items you could buy but they were open and had a control on the crowds today.

While we are talking music, I also play guitar, dobro and bass in addition to the banjo. I figure with that arsenal I should be able to keep anything away.

No, the opposite of an alpine.
It's a tiny cornet.

But
That is all secondary.
What someone with a banjo really really needs is my squeeze box concertina.

BANJOS! If you make your way to the Smokies, look me up. Banjo and guitar player here. Here in Townsend we have a great Monday night jam - old time, Appalachian and Celtic music. Dulcimers, guitars, fiddles, hammered dulcimers, ukes, bodhran drum, penny whistle, mandolin, and of course, banjos. And if bluegrass is your thing, there's another jam opportunity on Friday nights.

Not headed that direction but it sure sounds like a fun time. My wife also plays flute, Native American flute and ukulele. We are a traveling band for sure.

Fuel is cheap
You’ll be saving $1/gallon vs 6 weeks ago
So...
3,000 miles at 8mpg = 375 gallons of gas

If you find yourself in Floyd, VA, you might to stop for a spell. You can stay at Chantilly Farm - where they have the county fair every year. If you go into town, the country store has jams.

Here's some info: https://www.floydcountrystore.com/music

Unfortunately we are attempting to head in the other direction. We have a few more days here in St Augustine to finish up the sale of our house. I plan on a good martini tonight after our pack out today. Headed west as soon as it looks safe to go campground wise.
