We didn't allow the covid scare to stop our camping last year. We did stay close to home as a couple of the states we wanted to visit had insane lock down rules but we went every month from April to October. This year we will continue to camp closer to home as our routine medical appointments are being drawn out through the summer. We will have to make monthly short trips of 7 to 10 days but we will be out there.

By the way... the only effective bug repellent up there is Ben's 100.
Orange bottle, and use it liberally! (They measure the bugs by the distance between their eyes. A four-incher is medium sized!)

I lived in FL Panhandle for two years.
I lived in Alaska twice, for a total of 12 years.
I've lived next door to wetlands in SE N. Carolina for 8 years now.

Other than my wife, Ben's 100 is the ONLY thing I trust.

I was in a "Yuppie Outdoors Goober" store in Keene, and they had a table packed full of Ben's. I asked the guy why they had so much of it.
As I was picking up my fifth bottle of it: he said, "I lived in Alaska for 10 years, and these b@st@rds could teach those bugs tricks I never saw before."
So I bought 6 bottles instead.

We are headed back to Montana this summer, want to take in some Ghost Towns, Bannack is one we are looking forward too and then head back down to Wyoming where we dry camp every year, sometimes twice a year in the Bridger National forest. We head 24 miles up the Greys river road out of Alpine.
May have to check out the park you posted.

We pretty much camped the whole season last year with covid. But for this year we got the first shakedown trip done to see what needs to be worked on. The casino in town has a nice new campground they built to help take more of your money. I was able to collect 2k from them though which will not promptly be put back into the coach fixing a newly discovered propane leak and leaks on the grey and black tanks:

Well we just dug our rolling restaurant/hotel/fun mobile out of winter storage this past week. We've already made a few small mods and are trying out the new ebike carrier.

Our first "trip" may be next week sometime, just a scenic cruise to one of our favorite restaurants. We live far enough from everywhere that even curbside pickup wasn't a thing for us this past year. Dinner would have been cold before we were half way home.

So, now that we can, we'll take a culinary adventure; get a good curbside pickup (love those BBQ ribs) and drive the 1/4 mile to park and enjoy the Lake Michigan sunset view while we have our own private dinner party. We are ready!

Later in April, we are hoping to scope out Indiana Dunes NP and them take a classic cruise down Rt 66 in Illinois with some nice prairie preserves and state parks thrown in. Then New Mexico in the fall. Not sure what more local stuff we'll do over the summer yet.

We've both had our regimen of Pfizer with little more than sore arms for half a day. (The shingles shot was far worse than the covid one, so fear not.) We'll still take reasonable precautions, mainly to protect ourselves and family from those who are choosing not to. Protection is not fool-proof, but hopefully enough prudence will keep us healthy and and able to enjoy our adventures. Happy trails to all.

Summer 2020 saw us staying close to home but still out and about. Lots of trips to local state parks and visits to a couple parks up by the granddaughters in Kalamazoo Mi.
This spring will be a local state park in April for the Morel mushroom season. Late summer the Rockies somewhere from late August through September. My only issue with heading out in late summer is the National Forests and National Parks start to close up campgrounds after Labor Day. Somebody needs to tell the National Park and Forest Service that us old timers still travel after kids return to school

RV Wife,
You like ribs?
If you get to Ulster County, NY: you've got to check out Hickory's.
They're onRte 38, and about 4 miles West of Kingston.
(We're going there today)

Easing to Lake Lanier, Ga for 5 days. Savannah Ga for 9 days. Charleston SC for 7 days. Several WV State parks for 2 weeks. Several SC state parks for 2 weeks. Franklin NC (nmountains) for 10 days. Somewhere in September but can’t remember where.

Next year 2 months through western national parks.

We traveled as normally as we could last year and had to adjust based on closings. Even some rest areas were closed which makes zero sense. We just adjusted and enjoyed the light traffic and wide open spaces.

Lots of empty space in camp grounds and it was actually very enjoyable. One really positive was filling up the 150 gallon tank at an average of $150.

Filled up today and it was $310

Heading out again next week

Bob,

Thanks for the tip. Will definitely keep that in mind. We need a "licking lips" emoji, but since we don't have that I'll go with this: Thanx:

We had hoped to go east later this year to Acadia NP and environs via NY. Looks like a lot of maintenance closures and changes at that NP this year so we were reconsidering and thinking about just exploring NY state sites of interest instead. We love to cook over the open fire but an occasional eat out is certainly in the cards when the food comes highly recommended.

Might easily be in the "neighborhood" at some point. Our son graduated from RPI in Troy and we have some old connections in Newburgh and New Paltz we've considered looking up.

New Paltz? You're just 50 minutes from me!
(Come up over the Shawangunks, and turn South on 209...
Make a turn on Rt 55 West in Napanoch, and You're 14.5 miles from me.)

I've just about completed planning/reservations for our longest trip yet (yeah working stiffs so our longest trip to date has been 11 days). This one will be through Southern Colorado around South Eastern Utah and back home. All but one campground reserved.

The highlight of the trip will be a four night stay at Dead Horse Point State Park. To see a really cool view of it check out this Google Earth view of it.

You're not far from Arches. Any plan to visit? If so, treat yourself to the Moab diner when done. You'll be glad you did. Try to notice the clock that runs backward yet keeps perfect time. Good luck and have fun!

Yup using Dead Horse as a base to see Arches and Canyonlands.

That diner looks yummy.

Are you boon docking? If not, you might consider a place called Ballards RV Park in Thompson Springs. It's about a 40m drive to arches from there, super clean and fairly priced. There is a RR track there but trains were scarce, or I was just never around for them. If you have a toad, go into the back country to see the relics of an old mining town. I explored it and had a blast. Very intriguing.

There's a nice place in Green Valley (up the highway) where you can dump tanks, etc and stock up. I went from there to Spanish Fork and just kept going north.

The large building below used to be a bank.

Nope Dead Horse Point has two campgrounds; already have 99% of all the reservations made at this point.

Probably best to 'stick with the plan' after what I've been reading in the "Better have your reservations booked..." thread.

Have a great time.
