Florida?

I am getting ready to leave for Florida in the motorhome. Staying at a SP. Will the parks be open when I get there?

Most of them are open but will also be pretty crowded. We are on our way south as well and I made reservations as much as I was able to. Especially the ones on the coast are pretty much booked for the next weeks or so
Happy camping

In general, State and County parks are open. All campgrounds in Florida are extremely busy in the winter. It is strongly advisable to have a reservation! It seems like the whole U.S. comes here in January-March.

We are happy to have you help our sales tax revenue!

I'm in FL and while I have not been through any state parks campgrounds in general are busy. Normally it is impossible to get a spot this time of year but with no Canadians coming down, you can find spots.... even with all the COVID-inspired newbies.

I will say that I am worried newbies are going to give us a bad name and make boondoing harder for those who use it but respect the process.

In my community (gated mind you but it is open to the public) down here, there is also Westin resort hotel. It has a fairly large parking area and I have seen several motorhomes parking there the past several weeks and from what I have heard in some cases people are just setting up shop and having to be chased.

I don't abuse boondocking priveledges and we will use a Cracker Barrel occassionally on longer trips where we just want a nights sleep and a good meal in the morning. We also always call ahead and verify it is ok to stay overnight in their parking lot. We always spend money on foood and in their stores. During COVID they have been happy to have our business. But I'm afraid a lot of newbies who don't understand boondocking at certain businesses is going to make it harder in the future for people that either don't know the process or abuse it.

Thanks for the info. Luckily I have reservations! Not a covid newbie here It's a long drive so I was making sure the lights are still on. My momma raised me to have manners and respect so I'll leave the state in the same condition or better when I leave With a lighter wallet of course.

You were smart to get reservations in Florida for any stay from Dec through March. State parks do reservations through ReserveAmerica. The more popular ones stay busy all year.

There are available sites at private campgrounds in the center of the state, but the campgrounds closer to the coast stay pretty full.

Central and especially South Florida and The Keys are nuts right now. We just got back from a 2+ week trip to Keys and everybody is booked with the "3 Monthers". We were able to get a spot at Jolly Roger but it was a small, back-in, up front site with not much space to breathe. All the way back it was hit and miss. You might find a night or two at a place but anything beyond that and big enough to spread out is taken.

How early are you able to reserve for 2022 at most places? 12 months?

We just got back from a trip to the keys from Colorado. Mostly stayed at state parks but made reservations ahead of time. We also stayed at Jolly Roger in Marathon. then we were able to book Fontainebleu State Park in Louisiana the way back since we liked it so much on the way down.
