Ethical Dilemma - Go or Stay home

We've booked a short trip to Sedona and back to San Diego. Usually we don't interact with others, never visit shops or restaurants. None this trip. Open air bicycling is our passion. Actually our exposure to others is less than staying home.

We also don't often break rules.

Go or stay home?

Didn't California issue a stay in place order? If you go and something happens don't try to blame anyone but yourself.

If the campground is open - GO.

Campground or not, go on the trip.
Lots of state land and pullouts in that area.
Fuel up at home, fuel in Sedona, pay at the pump, you could do the whole trip and never get within 100ft of anyone.

But you didn't say you were using an rv for the trip....
If you're not going by rv, stay home.

You're not missing anything by missing Sedona the town.

Enjoy your ride.
Post pictures here in a thread.

California, does indeed have a 'stay at home' mandate. If we are to prevent this virus from spreading like wildfire, folks are going to have to understand they will be inconvenienced and will probably have to change plans. I don't like it any more than anyone does, but to disregard it, is IMO a selfish act.

We're in a 25 foot RV

Just remodeled and updated. This was to be our test run before a loooong summer trip.

Our reservation RV park's recorded message says open and fully booked.

I’d personally stay home. It’s not what I can control that concerns me most, it’s what happens out of our control that could make things more difficult.

For example, what if RV breaks down or are in an accident? Can you count on someone to come to your aid if they are sheltering at home? Or if you get sick on the road because you got the bug before you left?

I know these are highly unlikely, but it’s going to happen to a few if many of us wonder around. Something as simple as renting a car or taking a plane back home while RV is fixed may be more of a issue. If you have a toad, that gives you more options.

Can’t really speak for others because I’m in a small house taking care of two very old family members who probably wouldn’t survive the CV so my opinion is biased and reasoning influenced by added risk. Under normal conditions I could decide either way, but for me it’s not.

Since California has issued the "stay in place" decree: I would stay home...
But that's just me, and you will have to use your own "moral compass"; to decide what works best for you.
Good luck!

Since a lot of the nation is in a panic and things we take for granted may not be available, I would and am, staying real close to home.

I'd hang at home until this pestilence starts to die out or they find a preventive medication that can be taken to prevent it.

I've got a new to me motorhome sitting in my driveway and had plans to be on the road now.
But, I'll hang here in this commander recliner and watch TV, work in the yard and fish. "I live on a lake"

There's nothing wrong with "driveway camping" anyway.

We are loading up the coach and getting ready to take a trip. to North Carolina for. the weekend. No shelter in place order in either state so we are going to put a few miles on the rig.

I heard the state parks were closed? Are you seeing something different. I'll look for that post...

Found it:

Foud it:
The Outer Banks and Beaches especially around Dare County are closed. Not sure about the state parks. We are going to be staying in a KOA that is open for business and are happy we a coming (their words).

We were supposed to be going to an Easter show at the Rudy Theater in Selma, NC but since that got cancelled we decided to go a little further South to get away for the weekend.

Travel

Just thought I would add an observation for those of you commenting about CA's stay at home order.

I ventured out by myself this afternoon to scrounge up some cleaning products at Lowe's. It looked like a Saturday afternoon on a Memorial Day weekend. People were walking around buying everything but cleaning products and the parking lot was more full than I have seen it in a long time.

Personally, I had plans to meet some other campers at the river yesterday but I cancelled them last Wednesday, before the governor's proclamation.

Same here in Florida, Home Depot and Lowes are hopping with customers and no reduction in hours. Why? Because what better thing to do at home now than take care of those projects on the list that never ends.
