Indiana State Park Status 3/25
Indiana’s governor has ordered a mandatory shelter in place order to take effect 12:00 am Wednesday 3/25. It includes all non essential business to close and non essential workers to stay home til at least April 07. ( I don’t know how they determine what is essential. I work 1 day a week at the local hardware repairing windows & screen doors and I am considered essential? That’s what it says on my pass.. )
Anyway. The shelter order does not close state parks or campgrounds. The Indiana state parks will be open with the following conditions.
Campgrounds will be only available per the online reservation system. No walk up registration is available or allowed.
Visitor & or Nature Centers will be closed.
Vault Tolilets and when weather permits, comfort stations (around 4/1) will be open and cleaned on the regular schedule. The INDNR website does say the restrooms are only as clean as the last person using it. ( veiled threat they may close if the peeps don’t keep clean? )
Dump stations will be open when weather permits ( usually around 4/1)
Group Picnic shelters, Group campgrounds, state park inns, cabins and Park Offices will be closed.
Park entrance fees are waived til 4/7 or when the governor lifts the shelter in place order.
All hiking trails will be open.
Our governor realizes we human beings need to get outside to relax and unwind during these trying times,
“Social distancing guidelines are necessary even while Hoosiers get outdoors this spring” per governor Whitcomb.
For now we can still hit an Indiana campground. If people abuse the regs these parks may close. When you go be cool peeps we all want to be able to camp!
