What's in a Name? - Read POST #28 Before Posting

This will be interesting to see how this progresses (multiplys?) in our local.
Now of course HIPAA prevents officials from disclosing who the person is but demographics say it is a 46 year old woman with a non-travel related case.
But the grapevine runs thick in these parts and the story is this woman worked at a convenience store on the east side of town across the street from the only fast food/convenience store combo for about 6 miles. So chances are; she contracted it from a fly-by customer traveling from a higher infected location such as Jacksonville or Gainesville. The scary part is; how many people has she come in contact with since contracting the virus but before symptoms arose. Not just locals, like her coworkers and local customers, but people traveling across the state or even country.
I titled this a saga as I intend to report back at least daily on how this expands in our rural, socially distant community so you can get a snapshot into how one case progresses. We may be lucky and she may be the only case for awhile, but given her job, I kinda doubt it. Also, we have very warm weather right now, highs in the 80s for at least a week, close to 90 today. Maybe the warm weather will put a damper on the King Flu.

Seriously? This is not "China" flu anymore than H1-N1 is "American" flu. Stop racist rants.

Don't come on here spouting stuff you've no idea about.
You can call it the American flu if want.
We don't care.
It originated in people in Mexico.
You're wrong, you're thin skinned, you don't recognize gallows humor.
I've blocked you.

You know, there are much better places to put your energy into rather than ranting about racism where there is none. Have you heard of the Spanish Flu, how about the Hong Kong Flu? This virus originated in China so although it does have a technical name, calling it the China Flu or any other humorous name to lighten up the serious nature of this pandemic is not meant to be disparaging to anyone, it is a way to deal with the serious issue. The fact that you have your panties in a twist about it says more about your outlook than it does about anybody being negative towards anybody else. In fact, your posts are the only negative ones in this thread.,

Sadly, you represent what US has become. No one attacking you personally, just calling out racist remarks.

The fact is the title of the article.
"Outbreak of Swine-Origin Influenza A (H1N1) Virus Infection --- Mexico, March--April 2009"
Facts are Facts. Don't re-write history in an attempt to label someone a racist or state they are making racist statements. If it waddles like a duck, quacks like a duck, and tastes like a duck, chances are it's not a chicken.

Wrong. Article focuses on Mexico and citation is for cases in US

Ok, here we go...
What about MERS: Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome
And then there’s ZIKA: Zika forest of Uganda
SARS: animal virus first infected humans in the Guangdong province of southern China in 2002. Also a China virus.

Don't forget the Asian Flu. And the Russian Flu. Some people just hunt for a reason to be offended and find racism in everything.

Throwing this out there the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic started at an Army base in Kansas.
Call it COVID-19, Wuhan virus, Chinese flu it don't make a s---load of difference at this point, it has the potential to kill people. WE need to stop carping about what the flip we call it and do what each of us can to prevent it's spread. Stay safe I'm out..

Yaktop
You forgot/didn't list the Hong Kong Flu pandemic of 1968 and the Asian Flu pandemic of 1957.
Interesting special on Fox News about pandemics this evening.
Personally I think we need to call this either the China Virus or Wuhan Virus and quit calling it the Corona Virus. This virus started in Wuhan China and not Corona California or Corona, New York so why do folks insist on calling it the Corona Virus? Folks in Corona California and Corona New York should be screaming their heads off. The US has the only two cities worldwide named Corona so why is this referred to as a Corona Virus. I know, I know when viewed in a microscope the viruses look like they are covered by pointed structures like a corona or crown. (complements of Johns Hopkins Medicine)

Just learned something tonight! I knew drugs and alcohol can effect people but now Kool Aid can make the Chinese people a race of their own, the only way Chinese Flu can be racist if the people of China a race,
