Alberta Provincial Park & Canadian National Parks CLOSED

Dear Fellow Travellers,

For those on the road counting on resting overnight in Alberta Provincial Parks /Campgrounds or any of the Alberta Canadian National Parks they are closed... No camping and no services. This includes Jasper and Banff. You can drive through them and stop in the town but that is about it. This information is for the benefit of snowbirds coming back to Canada or Alaska. You might find some private campgrounds near the National Parks that will rent you a spot, but you should check in advance. When all else fails and you are on the road and looking for a quiet place to park for the night, I suggest general aviation airports. They have lots of parking space and under the present situation they are probably very quiet.

Winter is still very much present in Northern Alberta with night time lows of below 0 degree F. In fact yesterday we had 8 inches of snow. The geese have been spotted flying north but after the last week of hopeless weather maybe they have turned around and headed back to Montana!

Will winter never end???

Update for March 24, 2020

Parks Canada is calling on Canadians to support the national effort to limit the spread of COVID-19 and stay home.
The Agency is temporarily suspending all motor vehicle access by visitors at all national parks, national historic sites, and national marine conservation areas effective 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, until further notice. All visitor services remain suspended and all visitor facilities remain closed.
This means that all parking lots, vehicle services, washrooms, day use facilities, showers, visitor centres, and camping facilities, including oTENTiks, yurts and backcountry camping are closed until further notice. Many trails and day use areas across the Parks Canada network are also closed for public health or public safety reasons, to protect ecological or cultural resources, to protect the health and safety of employees, or due to limited availability of search and rescue response.
Highways and roadways which pass through Parks Canada places will remain open.
Parks Canada will limit its activities to basic critical operations.
