12 volt only works with Shore power

The latest issue in an ongoing saga of never ending issues with our 2015 Thor 24S.
The 12 volt system only seems to work when we are plugged in or on Generator.

Is youre use/store switch in "Store" or in "Use" mode?

If you leave it in "Store" the battery will be disconnected and thus you'll only get 12V when a 120V source is present.

It was left in the use position, I switched it to see if that would make a difference, and now the with does not seem to work. In the past there would be a loud clunk or click when switching and now there is nothing.
Just to be clear there was a sound when I switched it but then there was no sound. The converter seems to be operational, it is warm and the fan comes on briefly when turning the breaker on.

You won't hear a noise if its already in that mode.

Thus if its in store and you flip it to store you won't hear anything. Likewise if its in use and you flip it to use you won't hear anything. Er this is for coaches that have the momentary push version of the user/store switch.

This has the spring rocker switch. And you are correct, if it is in store and one switches to store it does not make a sound, however when it is toggled back and forth between both there is no sound. I removed the with and attempted to bypass it but there did not seem to be any difference.

You have no power coning from your house batteries (duh, I think you know that).

Your USE/STORE switch (latching relay) WAS in the USE position until you switched it to STORE. Now the problem is, there is no power from the house side (where the control power comes from) to put it back in USE, so in STORE it remains until you restore 12 VDC from the house batteries.

There are 3 reasons you may be in this situation:
1 - The house battery bank is dead as a doornail - get a voltmeter and check their voltage - should be over 12.2 VDC.
2 - The 50 Amp DC breaker from the house batteries to the latching relay is tripped and needs to be reset.
3 - There is a wiring problem between the house battery bank and the USE/STORE latching relay.

Good luck with your quest.

1. Tested House Bank, 11.8v. I believe it may not be charging as well
2. I do not see a 50 amp DC breaker any where. There is a breaker panel inside the coach and all breakers I can find are on. Have switched off and on to no avail.
3. Followed all wiring from with to what I believe is a relay and appears in good condition with continuity.

From here I would guess I need to locate the 50 (or 30) amp breaker and or charger. The manual does not state anything about a charger but refers to a converter that may also act was a charger. I do not have an inverter.

Thanks for the update!
So your house battery bank is dead and apparently you know how to use a voltmeter.
If you have access to a portable charger put it on the house batteries.

Your MH has a Converter/Charger integrated into the breaker/fuse panel. If bad, the converter section can be replaced, but you aren't there yet.

You have a Class C so your house batteries are probably under the steps? And Thor loves to hide that 50 Amp breaker. Sometimes in the battery compartment right next to a battery, sometimes on the outside of the compartment accessible from under the MH, but usually within 3 to 4 feet of the battery. You have to trace the leads from the positive posts of the battery bank looking for something like this:

But the 50 amp one. The 100 amp one goes to your generator for starting. It may have any color buttons or flags.

the 50 amp DC breaker does not look like the 240 volt AC breaker. The DC breaker is a small inline resettable fuse. usually within 6' of the battery.

Thank you everyone, this is all helpful info. As a Captain/Engineer on large yachts I am familiar with many of these AC-DC systems. I have crawled under the entire MH and followed the POS leads and do not see a DC breaker anywhere in the line. Nor do I see one for the genset. I guess next step is finding a schematic

Mine was on the outside of the battery box, and accessible only by crawling under the RV just behind the stairwell...

Thank you for the link, lots of helpful info there and found the schematic. Doesn't state any information on the 50 amp breaker for my unit. Does show a main battery with and relay. I will pull this and see about testing it.

Bottom picture of post #3 of this thread has a "real world" picture of the 12 breaker your looking for.

https://www.thorforums.com/forums/f8...sue-21998.html

There are better pictures, I just can't find them
Hope this helps and keep us updated.

breakers for the gen-set are on the gen-set. trust me, they are there. The battery one will be within 6' of the battery.

So far I have crawled under every inch of this unit with a flashlight, mirror and scope. Not finding any breakers. Thank for the encouragement though.

House breaker is usually in the battery compartment. My house battery is under the entry step and the breaker is on the wall right next to it--its hard to see because its hidden under the flange for the step.

every generator ever built has circuit breakers on it.

We seem to have lost sight of the mission
If your batteries are testing 11.8 v they are dead.
And may need to be replaced.

Measure the voltage with and without 120vac hooked up.

Now back to the missing 12volt DC breaker, where are your batteries?
