2011 Freedom Elite 21C BIRD?

Dumb question but anyone out there with the above motorhome know if it has a BIRD? My 21C is not charging the chassis battery when connected to shore power.

I just bought it, so I have no clue

Maybe an IRD? - Not all Class Cs provided bi-directional charging. May be a BCC at 2011.

Look in and around the battery compartment, If you find something the looks like this you have a BIM, If you do have one of these it will likely say 160.

As for the chasses, how old is it? If it is more than 2 years old it is likely dead from being allowed to go completely flat.

I believe that's a class C. Look under the hood, driver side firewall area... behind the coolant reservoir. Do a Google search for "Trombetta solenoid"... compare that pic to what MAY be mounted in that area on yours.

Next question... do you have an emergency start switch on the dash?

Thor MC plant 750 starting using BIRD's (Bi-directional Interconnect Relay with Delay) in late 2015 with the 2016 model year. All plant 750 coaches before that year had a BCC (Battery Control Center). Or at least, that is my recollection.

Thank you for your response. Yes I do, and it didn't work when I tried it. Chassis battery was dead. Leisure batteries were fully charged.

If the solenoid is toast, you have an option to upgrade to a BIM at this point. The BIM will monitor voltage and automatically connect the batteries to keep the chassis battery topped off. You also will still have the emergency start option. OR... you could simply replace the solenoid and keep things manual.
