2017 thor quantum lf31 towing capacity

What’s up guys! me and the wife are looking at getting a jeep this week as a towed vehicle. Do any of you know what a safe tow capacity range is? I’ve read 8000 pounds I’ve also heard 5000. We’re looking at getting a 2008 Jeep Wrangler those weigh in the mid 4000s. Will we be safe and your guys opinion?

You should be on the Ford 450 chassis. If so the max coach weight is 14,500 lbs and the max combined weight is 22,000 lbs. So, with a 8,000 lb hitch (which you should check what hitch you have), you could safety tow 7,500 lbs with no drop. If the drop gets much over 2 inches, it will seriously degrade the hitch's capability.

There should be a sticker beside the hitch itself that gives the hitch rating. Hitch rating and available towing capacity can be 2 different animals though. If you do need a drop hitch, sometimes call hi lo hitch, it will reduce your trailer towing capacity by 50% typically. Since flat towing isn't trailer towing, no issue for you.

If the sticker isn't there, search out the specifications for your RV model and year in thor archives. Normally hitch rating will be given. On my Omni the GVWR is 19,500, GCVWR 40,000, hitch rating 10,000. Thor could have put a 20K hitch on but instead a 10K. Cheaper and really not practical for a 20K towing capacity for this vehicle. Someone wanting that much will be in large super C like a Newmar, etc.
