2021 Thor Magnitude RB34

I am still having issues getting my leveling jacks to operate, fridge running on battery while traveling down the road and the generator will not fire up either. I believe this to be some sort of a common issue perhaps with the house batteries which I just replaced before our trip two weeks ago. I'm not anywhere near having the electrical brain to figure this one out. I'll take it to the dealer, but hoping some more experienced people on here could throw me some trouble shooting ideas or possibly you have had similar experience. Thanks in advance to all of you!

Sounds like you tripped the 100 amp breaker

Ideas from a fellow RB34 owner

I also have an RB34. I would guess you have more than one issue here - these are separate systems, but it is possible they are related.

EA37TS speaks wisdom, but doesn't offer the solution. There's a couple of breakers under the steps in the camper entryway. There's a little latch on the 2nd step, open it and look for the breakers to the left by the two batteries that come with the coach, are they flipped? That may solve everything. If that breaker is flipped, your control panel and lights won't work when the engine is off and you're unplugged.

If not...

Leveling jacks - what is happening?

  1. The levelers in the RB34 require the engine to be on to operate with the parking brake on.
  2. If that is done and all lights flash, you need to "reboot" it by pressing the four direction arrows (up, down, left, and right) at the same time and hold until the panel goes back to normal.
  3. If your issue is different, reply - I have other ideas too.

Fridge - I need details to help... Is the light on or is nothing on? Does it work on shore power at least?

  1. The plugs on the passenger side at the front top right cabinet opposite the TV all are on the same inverter as the fridge. If those don't have power too, your inverter isn't running.
  2. The inverter controller is on the steps to the left when you walk in. Make sure it's on! My kids play with the dang button and I have to turn it on sometimes to make the fridge work underway.

Generator - That's a tough one.

  1. There's a switch on top of the generator if you open the generator compartment on the driver side at the top left.
  2. Hold it. See if it starts.
    1. If it does, you may have an issue with the control system - but that's really rare. The firefly system is pretty reliable (compared to the rest of the systems).
    2. If it doesn't, what's it doing? Nothing? If so, your generator isn't getting power from your batteries.

EA37TS is correct..... it very well could be a tripped 100A Bussman Breaker in the house battery compartment for the Leveler and Generator issue. Those two are related.

The 100A breaker provides power to the Levelers and the Generator for starting. Many people have inadvertently tripped that breaker when working on the batteries or replacing them. It looks like the attached picture.

Also..... it is very likely your BIM is wired backwards and that will cause charging issues with the house batteries and other 12V electrical issues.

See one of my many posts on this subject.....

Here is a procedure for testing whether your BIM-160 is wired incorrectly.

Here is how you can verify Thor wired the BIM160 backwards:

1) Note Chassis and House Battery Voltages

2) Plug into shore power (engine should not be running)

3) Turn on the headlights

4) Chassis batteries should eventually hits ~12.5V and you should hear the BIM relay kick in and the chassis batteies should be 13.5V minimum.

5) Turn off headlights and unplug shore power

6) Start the engine

7) Start draining the house batteries by having Inverter on, TV on, lights on, furnace on, etc.

8) When the house battery voltage hits ~12.V you should you should hear the BIM relay kick in and the chassis batteries should be 13.5V minimum.

If the voltages do not behave this way, your BIM is wired incorrectly per all my posts on this topic.

For the Inverter..... make sure that the Inverter is actually on. The power button needs to be depressed inwards for the Inverter to be on so it powers the fridge when off shore power.

Also... there is a second control panel in the Xantrex inverter. That power button must actually be turned off for the remote control panel to work properly. I found the control panel was not turned off on the Inverter so the remote panel would not work properly.

If that is on the issue, check the MRBF fuse where the Inverter battery cable attaches to the battery. If that blew, you will not get any battery power to the Inverter. See the attached picture for what the fuse looks like. If the fuse is good make sure the cable connections are all tight... and you reconnected it when you replaced the house batteries.

Thank you for the response. Fridge works when plugged into shore power, no other time.

Parking brakes engage and engine running for jacks, I will try to reboot.

Generator - Tried the manual start on it but nothing, these all could be related back to the breaker/battery. I will also look into my inverter, really hard to tell if its on or off sometimes

I am happy to respond that your advice on the breaker and the fuse on the battery cable from the inverter was not properly attached. Both of these issue happened when I changed out the house batteries . Thanks again for all your help!!
