2024 Quantum KW29 Purchase

Just purchased 2024 Quantum. What should I pay particular attention to during walk thru...if anything. By the way, this is my first "motorhome". Traded in 30' Airstream.

Thank you, Jerry

One significant issue that occurred with our 2022 involved the gray water drain line from the kitchen sink where it passed through the wall to the bedroom. Part of the line moves with the front slide and Thor provided too small of an opening through the wall for it to pass through to where it connects to a fixed section of drain line under the bed. A furnace duct and water lines also pass through this opening, and the end result with ours was a broken pipe fitting at the wall opening. Remove the two large drawers under the cooktop to inspect.

Not mine - that thread was created by the Judge - I just pointed you in the right direction.

Make sure all the suspension lube points have been properly greased. I purchased a 2018 ACE on an F53 chassis with only 3900 miles last year. When I took it into a shop to have the alignment checked, the shop found that the Kin pin bushings were worn badly enough that an alignment could not be successfully performed. On disassembly they found that there was almost no grease. Because of this the bushings were runed. In my estimation Ford failed to lubricate the bushings at the factory, the OO dealer did not lubricate the bushings during the predelivery prep, and the OO never had the bushings lubricated.

Finally read this:

https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2...doi=2023-10-10

It is about a dismissed class action lawsuit filed against Ford about warrantee alignment issues on an E serries cutaway chassis.

There is also the leveling jacks control panel that malfunctioned on ours not long after the factory warranty expired. First Thor and then Lippert declined to cover it as a goodwill out of warranty reimbursement. It’s easy to change, but a replacement was foolishly expensive.

I will also keep that in mind. Not sure what I can do, though.

At the very least you should find a good shop that can do alignments on large vehicles and any heavy work you may need. I happen to have such a shop here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They work on everything from over the road trucks all the way down to ordinary cars. They also have an RV division that sells used RVs. Take your unit in to have the alignment checks and while it is in the shop have it lubed. Even if it is not needed you will know it has been done and you will avoid the problem I had on my RV.

Can I ask to clarify, if you have already purchased, or if you are saying you have put down deposit and your PDI is pending?

Note the condition (bottom image) of the OEM house batteries under the middle entry steps as delivered by Thor. Cables installed over the filler caps making a check of water levels problematic. Required me to remove them, clean them up, and turn them 180 in the battery tray to make them presentable.

Two years after purchase we have no regrets with having chosen the KW29. Modify as you see fit and enjoy.

Good luck. Also do not be put off by the problems others have had. With my ACE my only regret was that I did not have the alignment checked and coach inspected before I signed. If I had known about the king pin issue, I might have been able to knock a little more off the bottom line. But even with the king pin issue I still got a good deal.

Absolutely video the entire thing! I did while my husband did the walkthrough because it’s overwhelming and you can’t retain it all. Also we have a 2022 Quantum 26LC so if you have this model make sure they show you where “both” black tank values are because they didn’t tell us. One is behind the passenger rear wheel area and the other one on the driver side. We found it the hard way.

That second gate valve for the black tank on the passenger side initially provides for a more forceful emptying. Opening the driver side valve first and then the passenger side valve accomplishes that.

The O.P. is getting a KW29.

You'll get tons of "be sure to check this" advice and all of it is qualified. But...if you'll follow Judge's well put together list you can eliminate a lot of drama. Regardless, some configurations will have inherent problems...like big slides with kitchen, plumbing, heating and drain pipes in the slide. Access to moving parts (or the lack of) can be real issues as well. Good luck...don't let the dealer rush you and make them demonstrate everything.

Amen to that.

For the longest time I could not figure out why the sink in the outside kitchen would not drain. I got to the point where I was about ready to take it apart to clean the PTRAP I assUme d was clogged. When I started looking at stuff, I found a mercerator pump. Then for the life of me I could not figure out where the switch to operate the pump was located. It turned out the switch was located on the bottom side of the Cabinet in the outdoor kitchen. A friendly fellow camper spotted it for me. Sometimes being short is an advantage, at my average 5' 10" height the switch was out of my line of site, it took someone who was a little shorter than I to spot the switch.
