8955 AD converter firmware update:

Good Morning,

I have searched the forums and can't find this information.

I have a 2023 Four Winds 25V E450.
I'm having 2 100ah LiFePO4s relocated and installed.

I found out that the OEM WFCO 8955-AD Converter needs a firmware update to work properly. I am in the process of sending to them. They will also install a jumper to keep it on Lithium. Great customer service so far but I am SUPER annoyed that this is supposed to be Lithium ready.

Has anyone done this update and has it been successful? I'm wondering if I should just purchase something else.

Thanks for any assistance!

Who knew WFCO converters had firmware? The 8955 AD (stands for Auto Detect) is supposed to automatically detect LA or Li batteries. I'd be upset too if it didn't. Did they explain WHY it didn't work "out of the box"?

They did not. I was told how to uninstall it and that there will be no charge since it's under warranty. Apparently it does not fully charge Lithium batteries because the auto detect feature is wonky.

Are you also having an inverter installed? A major benefit of more amp hours is the availability of 120v AC when not plugged to shore power OR having to run the generator.

Most inverters in the 2,000 watt range and above are combination inverter chargers. The Victron MultiPlus 2000 is an industry standard inverter/charger. It retails for around $1,000.

I opted for a Sungoldpower 3,000 watt inverter/charger for my self installed system. It retails for just under $800.

I would make certain you're getting accurate information about your WFCO unit. A firmware upgrade sounds fishy to me.

I am not installing an inverter at this time. I have been in direct communication with WFCO tech support. This is a known issue and their fix is to ship it to them so they can update it. They also ask if you want it permanently in Lithium mode with a jumper. I am willing to do this fix. I just need to know if anyone else has done it and what the outcome is. The fix is free.
