Bh35 Stove Question

We own a Magnitude BH35. Can anyone tell me why the propane portion ( two burners) of the cooktop will not work when on battery (DC)?

Electric power (battery) should have no bearing on using propane appliances. The furnace, water heater, stove/oven, and absorption fridge (if equipped) will all work without being plugged into SP.

The stove/oven should work even with no battery UNLESS you have a propane sensor that is connected to an electrically controlled propane shutoff valve, and you loses power to the sensor and valve.

Most propane ranges need 12VDC to power the electronic ignition module - this provides the spark to the burners to ignite the propane. Not knowing your model of range it is hard to provide an accurate answer. However, a few thing to check.

1. Do you smell propane when setting the burner knob to light? It may take 10-15 seconds if the propane tank was off - takes a bit to purge the lines.

2. Do you see a spark near the burner when trying to ignite the propane?

If no propane smell then like ACE says there may be a sensor issue. Could also be the gas regulator on the range.

If no spark then either 12VDC isn’t making its way to the range or the electronic ignition module is bad.

Do all of the other propane appliances work fine?

It’s part of the induction stove top. I just don’t understand why it won’t allow propane to flow thru even without the electronic ignition.

The furnace works and the two stovetop burners when the generator or SP are on. No spark or gas flow when on battery.

When on battery is your inverter on?

The electronic ignition may need to heat a thermocouple that will the allow lpg to flow to the burner.

Depends on the stove

Looking at pictures on the Thor site it looks like you have a True Induction cooktop. If so, then it needs both 120VAC and 12VDC to work - 12VDC for the electronic ignition. Works an SP, works on Genset, doesn’t work on battery - is the use/store switch on?

Check propane line to stove. They can get pinched in the slide when you move it out. Ours on our BH35 works when just connected to 12V. Induction needs 120V.

Yes the use switch is on. I was told by Thor it needed 13.1 volts to operate on battery but that hasn’t happened

If you read the manual for the cooktop, you will see there can be one of two different types of power for the gas ignition. There can be a battery or a DC power supply that plugs into an outlet.

If your stove only works when on shore or generator power, then you likely have the DC power supply. The stove may have a built in protection that if there is no power to the auto ignitor, then the gas will not flow so you can have the flow on without trying to light a flame.

I will go out to my SV34 this morning to see if my True Induction gas burners will light without AC power and report back.

I just went out to my SV34 and turned off the breaker to the Cook Top and my burners still light. I thought we used it before when we stop while traveling for lunch and that's what I did confirm.

Gas stove

When we’re on battery only- our gas/induction stove will not light. I understand the induction but I would think the gas stove would work?

Have you checked your spark ignition battery?

What is gas and what is induction?? Is it a manual spark/igniter, maybe it works off of 120Vac like the induction part.
Do you smell the propane when turning on?

If you know, maybe the make and model number?

Hard to determine if it was a cake, cookie or loaf of bread when working with the crumbs....

2021 BH35 cooktop

Does anyone here own a BH35? My question is, why doesn’t the gas burners (2) work when on just battery. I can see the induction not being able to function on just batteries, but the gas burners too? No gas flows and no igniter clicks. Full tank of propane too.

Stove top burners

Not sure if I’ve asked this before but I own a Thor Magnitude BH35. The two propane burners, located next to the electric flat burner, won’t light if we’re dry camping/boondocking. Only on shore power or generator. Is this right? Sent the same question to Thor. No response.
