I heard about the power draw as well, and some stories about the water supply leaking behind the fridge. So we unplugged and removed ours, and shut off the water supply.
Then we just fill a gallon ziplock bag of ice from our home fridge before leaving; usually all we need for a trip.

My tech told me AGM not so good for cold weather in montana..
He has been in industry 25 years and recommends interstate batteries

Critical if not running the A/C in the summertime IMHO.

I am considering purchasing an Omni 32XG. I currently have a Desert Fox toy hauler as I am an avid dirt biker and I also have a side by side. Most if not all of my camping is without hookups in the desert and high country.

One of my questions is using a residential refrigerator off of solar with batteries. I don't mind running the generator a couple hours a day or to run the AC but I don't want to be obligated to run it the majority of the day to keep the refrigerator working.

What setups have you found to work well as far as solar panels and battery capacity?
We boon dock quite a bit on Federal or state land and typically in areas where you have quiet times until 7 am. Our residential fridge and the heat system are the primary larger loads. Not a problem at all with a two hour per day recharge if you have good batteries. I did change to AGM to have enough battery left to make coffee with the drip machine before 7 AM

Just push up on the little metal bar to simulate a full hopper. I run mine until I have some ice then turn it off over night so I don't have to listen to the crash when it dumps ice.
