Thor 28Z - how do you get into the cab over bunk?

Im not kid anymore and there is no ladder to access the cab over bunk. I tried climbing on the dinnette seat then the back of the seat but heard creaking and cracking and stopped.
Is there supposed to be a ladder and we just didnt get ours? (used)

Mine came with a ladder. If the bunk has two metal brackets on it, those are for hooking the ladder into...

Mine came WITH a ladder. Yours should have also.
Thats said, We don't use it. Too cumbersome, We climb on the back of the dinette if we need to get up there. I weigh 170 lbs and have no problems with it. We don't need go up there that often. Use the area for storage not sleeping. We installed a 1 inch black iron pipe across the width and use it as a clothes rack. Mostly for coats and extra clothes. Also for a case of toilet paper, and paper towels and to store the portable satellite when not being used.

Same here. The "kids" (college-aged teens) prefer to just climb, and when the jack-knife sofa is open you can't use the ladder anyway. I weigh 150 lbs (and am the heaviest of us) and climbing up using the back of the dinette is quick and easy.

Just a side FYI.
The jack knife sofa's left arm comes off so your able to recline the passenger side seat down further.

I believe it depends on the year of the rig. Some years had a ladder, then the ladder went away and then I believe it came back.

Amazon has a few options available for purchase. The issue at times is storage while traveling.

Ours has a ladder. We found it under the cushions.

I have slept in various Class C overhead bunks, and in every case found getting down was more difficult than getting up there. I still have plenty of strength and flexibility to get up easily one way or another (being relatively lite helps), but find getting down more awkward, particularly at night if dark. It’s not being able to see clearly where to step on way down that is greatest challenge for me. I have always gotten down safely, but it takes more effort for me. Others may have opposite experience.

Just mentioning it in case ladder isn’t the solution you are hoping it is.

My biggest complaint is the narrow tread on the step ladder. It is not only uncomfortable but can be difficult to find as you back down from the bunk.

Also, if the bunk is used without extending the slideout on our Axis 24.2, you can not align the ladder with the brackets making it unstable.

I am considering a folding step stool with a wider tread as an option. Has anyone done this?

Something like this:

A different approach

While looking at Cruise America’s newest motorhome, I noticed they included a built-in step and also a grab handle up high that should make it much easier to climb both up to and down from cabover bed. I had not noticed this arrangement on any Class C before.

The step looks fairly high, but there may be an intermediate step built into the cabinet (can’t really tell from website views). The built-in step and or handle may be something that can be added to a Class C depending on floorplan. You’d have to make sure it was very secure so it didn’t pull out of wall.

There is a ladder somewhere..ours is stored in the closet in the rear bedroom closet. If your unit is used, then the original owner will know where it went.

Our ladder was in the cabinet on the passenger side of the bed hanging on storage hooks.

Our class C has two black rectangular hooks attached to the frame holding the cab over mattress pad - plainly visible. If yours has those it likely came with a ladder.

Our 28H did not come with a ladder (or hooks on the mattress). We ended up buying a small stepstool/ladder off Amazon and it works great. For older people, the wide steps on this are much better than the narrow rungs of a factory ladder. When traveling, we store it under the cab over cushion and when parked and not in use, we stow it behind the drivers seat.

Ours came with a ladder.. but when the grandkids come in to our coach.. they're like monkeys.. they never use the ladder, it's up on the dinette bench or recliner ..
