chateau 22b tow weight calculation help

hi, I have a 2021 thor chateau 22b on a chevy chassis and I am needing help determining the towing capacity. can anyone that is experienced with this please comment. thank you.

Here's a starting point. Start at 3 minutes for towing.



Basically, you can't exceed the tongue weight rating of the hitch (likely 500 lbs), The hitch weight (likely 8000 lbs), or the Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR). Take your GCWR and subtract your MH's GVWR and that is the max you can tow with the MH fully loaded. For your Chevy chassis that would be 16,000 - 12,300 = 3,700 lbs; not a lot.

Load and then weight the coach with passengers inside. Subtract the actual weight from the GCWR and that is what you can tow as long as you do not exceed the hitch capacity.

GCWR-GVWR is only a ballpark number. If your actual weight is under GVWR you can tow more if it is over you can tow less.

The first step is getting the actual weight so you know what you can and cannot tow especially if you are looking to buy a vehicle for a TOAD.

"if it is over " you are OVERLOADED!

That’s what “over” means….! But it’s an important point because many (MANY) RVs are overloaded. Especially class Cs.
