City water hookup, fill tank?

Hey guys, 2021 Delano newbie here, our first time out with it at an RV park. I checked the diagram in the wet bay and hooked it up to make sure it was set up for city water, everything works fine, but....

I realized the freshwater tank is reading 1/3 full now (it was empty before). Is that normal that it fills it part way when hooked up to city water? I don't have the water pump turned on and the reading hasn't changed since it was hooked up.

I don't know but I do have an important tip for you.
There is never a reason to run on shore water.
The pressure is inconsistent, a hose might break/leak and ten or so other possibilities unneeded.

If running on internal water your pressure will ALWAYS be the same, your shower will always work as expected.

I have never found a reason for shore water other than to fill my internal tank.

I'll sway easily if someone has a reason for shore water hookup.

That's something to consider, thanks. I have a pressure regulator but still am cautious of other issues.

Regulator cannot add the pressure you'll need to run the water heater.

I have a tankless. Didn't seem to have any issues this morning in the shower, but I guess if another park has lower pressure we might run into a problem.

I had the issue with my tank filling when connected to city fixture. I turned to lever from city fixture to dry camping then back and that fixed my issue. You might turn the city warmer off before doing this. I believe the lever was not all of the way seated and moving the lever back and forth fixed it. This happened earlier this year and I have had the issue since. Might give it a try.

I also have a 2022 Delano. The gauges are not very accurate and change also when on a uneven area. It is hard to tell if you are really empty unless you drained your tank.(even then it needs to be level or leaning to the drain side to fully drain). At some campsites (few from my trials)you may have great pressure while at others just stay on the pump and internal tank. The tankless heater needs a specific pressure to operate and a lot of campsites do not have enough pressure. Enjoy your unit and fix and improve things as you go.

Water hookup

I really agree with you using your own water pump. The pressure is so much better. When i hook up with city water using a regulator the pressure is terrible plus the faucets leak and one less thing to trip over. Yes you need to refill but that gets you outside and breathe the fresh air. And when filling the tank i use a filter to remove sand and chlorine.

Regulators are not created equal and you "should" be using am adjustable such as
https://www.campingworld.com/dw/imag...?sw=800&sh=800

I personally use the shore water just like I use the shore power, and use the shore sewer if available. Using onboard tanks and pump can be just as problematic as using shore water. A fitting inside can break/leak and flood the RV just as easily as shore water hookup. No a pressure regulator can't increase pressure nor can an onboard pump. You may or may not have enough pump pressure to operate the on demand W/H either. Regardless whether you are using shore or onboard water, turning off the pressure source, faucet or pump when not using is the only way to you can be reasonably assured a leak won't flood the RV. Nothing guaranteed, just reasonably assured.

Running off your tank doesn't fix anything...
the check valve between the 3 systems is probably just sticking a bit, and allowing some "back-fill" to occur.
Give it a cleaning.

I also suspect it was the water pump's check valve sticking temporarily that allowed water to back flow to the tank, probably due to lack of use building up trash in it.

I also agree that filling the water tank and using the on-board freshwater pump avoids the problem. It also avoids any problem with leaks occurring when you are not in the RV and flooding the coach. You have to turn off the water pump when you leave though which is a good practice in any case.

How do you clean it? Do I have to remove the valve or just flush it a few times?

Given that your coach is almost new so it can't be scale build up, it is probably construction trash that let water through the check valve. Given that the tank stopped at 1/3 full, it is probably now clear. If you mostly use shore water, I would just run the pump for a few seconds to clear it of trash periodically.

On a Thor ACE 27.1 2016, or 27.2 (don't know which one you currently have) look at the suction side of the pump for the strainer with the clear top. Isolate the pump remove and clean the strainer, put it back together, run water from the tank through the pump for several minutes, sometimes intermittent running will help. This flushes the inherent check-valve feature in the pump.
