Emerg start switch

Hey all. I have a 2019 28E and the house batteries are dead. Can I use the emergency start switch to use the vehicle battery to get the generator started

Apparently the vehicle alternator does not charge the house batteries also?

The alternator is "supposed" to charge the house batteries, but Thor often wires the BIM incorrectly so it doesn't work. Assuming ou have a BIM, Precision Circuits says "Provides Emergency Start with Dash Switch. Optional power connection for existing applications, and ground connection to allow Emergency Start of either battery." if it's wired correctly.

I had a weird issue once where my house batteries were dead. I was able to start the truck motor and then start the generator with the truck motor running. I haven't had an issue again so I'm thinking a relay or breaker was tripped.

Might be worth trying.

Welcome to the forum..

'Emergency Start' should connect house and chassis batteries together and start the generator..
The house battery should be charged by the alternator, generator or external power.

Check your 'Battery Disconnect' switch. If it is off -house batteries will not charge

BIM? Another abbreviation used for a newbie.

Trombetta solenoids and other brands fail often

And already noted is incorrect control wiring

VOM is simple to use and the best way to check out a charging system

Most newer rigs have decent panels with critical information as well

Find your BIM, BIRD, or whatever you have

In couple minutes with your VOM you will know what is working or what isn't

There is a sticky thread for the acronym challenged. You might want to print it out for easy reference:

It worked for me that first year when this happened. It's pretty great to know that you have that ability when stuck with a flat battery bank.
