Freshwater Capacity

We have a new to us 2019 Freedom Elite Class C, 30'. We are going on our first road trip in a couple of weeks -- for about six weeks. We need to sanitize the freshwater tank but cannot find info on what size the tank is. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum.

Go to the Thor owner’s resource site and download all the info based on VIN.

I don't measure when I put in bleach to sanitize my tank. I pour about 4 oz of bleach down the fill port then fill it up with water. I open all the taps and turn on the pump and let it rip for about 5 minutes. Then drain, refill and let it run for another 5 minutes. After that, if it smells like bleach I will repeat the flush. I'm a big fan of the kiss method, been keeping it simple since 1982 and never had a problem.

Thanks, Lt Keefer. That may be what we have to do. I went to the Thor owners resource page, input the VIN correctly, but can't seem to find the info I'm looking for.

If we knew what model MH you had we could easily Google it and find the specs at RVUSA and THORRVSOURCE websites under "Capacities".

Carol,
It's just a like a sink, but with a top on it.
Wash it as you would in your home.

No RV thought needed.

RV gallons to us are:
Full.
Not full.

I don't know what any of my sinks or tubs or washing machines hold, RV or home or shop.

Oh, for sure!!! I'm so sorry! What should I have said other than "2019 Freedom Elite Class C, 30'"? Maybe I just wasn't putting enough info in my search!

Carol,
Is your 2019 Freedom Elite Class C, 30'" blue? Inquiring minds....

Some of us have few comprehension skills and therefore only read titles so as to not tire ourselves.

You'll get used to it.
Inmates often answer when asylum staff are asked.

Welcome.
Stick around. You'll have lots more questions. There is no better place to ask.

Ducksface, it's not blue that I can tell at all! But thanks for that info. And I have another question I need to ask, but I know this is not the proper thread because it's a tire question! I just can't find where to do a new post! Thanks so much for your kindness!

The Model is key to what's installed. The length is meaningless.
Examples:
22FE
22HE
24FL
24HE
27FE
28HE
31FE

The bigger ones usually have a 40 gallon tank.

Not certain, but I think the E series Ford chassis typically has a 40 gallon freshwater tank... regardless of length of "house box".

Carol, don’t let these knowledgeable folks scare you. I fill my 40 gallon freshwater tank until it overflows. 38 gallons. Why can’t I get 40 in? I have no idea. However, another lengthy, humorous thread on this forum discusses the pros and cons of traveling with a 1/3 tank of water. So the answer to your question is, your tank will hold however much you can get into it. And once you have X number of posts, you’ll be a “senior” member as well. Then you can ask folks for their model number after posting a 2019 Freedom Elite 30 ft.

I "supposedly" have a 40 gallon freshwater tank. Do I know for certain? Heck no. I do like Jimbo... stick the hose in and run the water until it squirts back out the fill port... done.

More importantly I have a handle on how long we can boondock on that tank of water... knowledge gained from experience. So how much bleach do I use to sanitize? I "assume" it's 40 gallons, and we haven't had Salmonella induced dysentery yet.

Most RV related things aren't rocket science and tend to get over complicated. Just use common sense and get on with it.

I believe the OP’s question was intended to determined how much sanitizing solution they need to mix for the size fresh water tank they have.

Please read the initial post where they state they are trying to sanitize the tank.

Searching "sanitize water tank" gives most common recommendation of 1/4 cup (2 ounces) bleach per 15 gallons capacity.

Bleach is a potent oxidizer... don't pour directly into your tank undiluted... it will rot rubber gaskets.

The assumption is you have a tank style water heater... NOT a tankless. Mine is a tank style, so if yours is tankless, you'll need to consult someone familiar with those.

Here's my method:

Make sure the hot water tank plug is installed, and the valves are set to normal operation, NOT bypass.

Make sure all faucets in the motorhome are closed.

Put one end of your freshwater fill hose into the motorhome's gravity water fill port. At the other end (near the faucet) very carefully pour a little over 5 ounces of bleach directly into the hose end - then immediately connect the hose to the faucet.

Turn on the water... monitor closely. In a few minutes when water begins shooting back out of the gravity fill port, the tank's full - turn off the water.

Go inside the motorhome and turn on the water pump. Go outside the motorhome to the hot water tank and flip the pressure release valve open. Remain near the hot water tank - when water spews out the pressure relief - it's full - flip it closed.

The water pump will shut off shortly, indicating the system is pressurized. Open each faucet (hot and cold) and let water run until most of the air is expelled. Then turn off the water pump.

Let sit for minimum three to four hours. Then drain the water tank. Flip open the pressure relief valve on the hot water tank, then remove the plug to drain. Replace the plug.

Fill the fresh water tank completely with fresh water. Drain again. Then completely fill the tank again. The tank should now be sanitized, filled and ready for use.

Turn on the water pump and wait until the hot water tank is full as before. Turn off the water pump and drain the hot water tank. Replace the plug.

Repeat this process to again fill the hot water tank - then flip the pressure relief closed and let the system pressurize. Open each faucet and let run until ALL air is expelled. Don't forget the toilet.

At this point you should have very little if any bleach smell left, and the water system is sanitized and ready for use.

That's true for later recent years, not sure about earlier years.
