generator hot air exhaust mod - Diesel Cummins QD6000 - Thor Magnitude/Omni BH35

Sharing what I did to reroute the hot air exhaust the comes out of the bottom of the generator to the side instead of straight down. Credit to Edward Lis on the FB Group for Thor Mag/Omni Owners for posting up what he did and inspiring my install. I pretty much did the same thing he did, but I was able to source cheaper parts and a little lower profile vent so am sharing in case others are interested.
Parts you need:Tools you'll need
  • sheet metal snips
  • drill motor with 5/16" nut driver
  • a cocktail of your choice

This roof vent should fit between the bottom of the generator air outlet and the exhaust pipe with room to spare. Remove the single screw that holds in the metal damper on the roof vent and pry it out as it will not be needed and won't worked inverted anyway. You will likely need to notch out the flat part of the vent (known as the flashing in roofing terms) to clear the exhaust pipe. I folder the back of the flashing 90 degrees and screwed it to the back side of the generator frame rail. I was able to utilize one of the generator 10mm screws to hold it in one spot. Otherwise I used the self tapping screws to drill a hole into the thick metal pan of the generator. Be sure to use short screws to avoid any mishaps with drilling through a vital part of the generator. Optionally you can install the flat shingles to make a scoop to help direct the air around the generator frame. You cut one of the shingles short by about 2.5" (final size about 5.5" X 12") and use that strip to cover up any air leaks that the roof vent flashing doesn't cover. Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damage you might do as this is just the way I did it and am sharing, but it is up to you to to decide the correct way for your specific needs. Note: you will need to remove some of this to access for maintenance like oil changes etc.
