House battery 2017 Freedom Elite 30FE

My son removed the house battery (one battery)on our camper last year and believe he knew how to reinstall it. The two battery cables are red on both ends and so he couldn't determine nor I, which was cable was positive and negative. Can someone send me picture of the correct install/setup of their house battery for the 2017 30FE please.

Can you trace one of the cables and determine where it is connected?

One cable terminal should be different size as the negative pist is smaller

Good luck

You could also use your VOM and check resistance of both to ground

The ground cable will have little resistance

Do not have a VOM. However, one cable (positive or negative) is attached with 5 other individual sections of wiring with a nut to the underside metal of the coach. Maybe that is the positive side providing power to the coach. Not really sure.

Any cable connected to the frame of the vehicle is a ground (negative) cable. The other cable should be traced to one or two DC breakers:

I have the same year and model and here is what I have. The positive is the right terminal and the cable that runs to it goes along the step and is connected to the wire junction on the left wall of the step. I do know if you take the protective plastic off it’s red underneath and the negative is not. At least on mine

If you're gonna own and work on an RV you must own and know how to use a multi-meter. Any wire connected to the frame of the RV is the negative cable. I believe if you look around you will find a black wire to go with the red ones. Red is positive and black is negative.

Those are negative cables. Provided they are connected to the frame. Any of them Red?

I guess we now understand the importance of labelling all cables, and taking pictures...

The problem with RED on a Thor coach is that they use a red anti-corrosion spray paint at the factory; so red is not a polarity indicator like you would hope it should be. Your negative cables are as likely to be red as your positive ones.

Battery

Thanks for the pictures 'elite washington'. Does your battery have the positive post on the right and negative post on the left? I was informed that the long cable is the ground since it is connected with other cables to the frame and the short cable is the positive I bought a new battery with positive on right and negative on left but will need to replace it with the posts reversed if that is the case.

The positive is the one on the right and that has the shorter cable connected to it. The positive cable runs along the step and then connects on the left side junction.

Be very careful.

The junction of several cables you suggest are attached to the frame may actually be positive cables attached to a “standoff”. Be absolutely sure you know what is what. If not sure, get help. And always take a picture before removing any cables, even if replacing the battery immediately!

I have exactly same wires on left of stairs. But I never saw dc breaker that everyone is talking about, that can be reset. Does your coach have that any where? That you know of.

Should have a breaker like that near the house batteries. And near the chassis battery.

I will look for that. If this is breaker, does it have any reset switch. If It does where is it at switch on breaker.

Some like that have a small button reset; some are just thermal overloads and need to cool to self-reset.
