We used one for 14 years on a diesel pusher. They have advantages and disadvantages and are a high maintenance item. The biggest problem is hair wrapping around the blades that will eventually cause a problem. We had to take ours apart about every two years and clean the hair out. I know the hair should not be in the black tank but my wife would blow dry her hair with the toilet lid up and I think sometimes just throw hair in the toilet. I found it easier to just do the maintenance than try to change her habits.
If you use dump stations it takes a long time to pump the gray and black out. If you primarily camp with full hookups then that is not an issue.
A big advantage we found with the macerator is we could just put our blue tote tank on the tailgate of the truck and pump the gray water into it. Then we drove to the dump station and used a normal 3 inch sewer hose to dump. Of course you will still want to stop by the dump station when you exit the campground to dump the black tank.
If you have a cleanout at home you can use a garden hose to dump your RV, even up hill, because of the pumping action of the macerator.
A newer version of the macerator is now available that has a significantly increased flow rate.
An another disadvantage of macerator pumps is they use a lot of current and need a 20 amp DC circuit to operate.
An advantage is you don't have to carry a big 3 inch sewer hose with fittings and the smaller macerator hose will usually store in the service bay were it is intstalled.
Bottom line is some people love them and others hate them. Just depends on what fits your needs.
