Magnitude Service & Camping World - thoughts?

We found the RV we want, but it's at a Camping World about 8 hours away. My concerns are that we aren't going to drive all the way back to get warranty service work done. Their website makes it sound like you can go to any CW location for service, but I'm hesitant to just jump into that without hearing from someone who has actual experience (good, bad, indifferent).

We've looked all over, this is the closest one we can find. COVID has brought out the campers it seems.

I wouldn't buy from a Camping World if it was the last RV in the US.

Not all camping worlds sell all units and some do not service units they do not sell. They fed you their typical line of BS. Call one closest to you and ask them if they'd service the unit.

Ouch. I've read some bad things but I always try to take that with a grain of salt. This is too big of a purchase to screw around with. I guess we can wait until we can find something closer (or commit to going a lot further).
TY!

I’ve had good and bad experiences at CW. More good than bad. But they all were purchases (4 units). I’ve never used their service department. We drove 500 miles to purchase our Newmar from CW. If I need service I’ll go to an independent service center that does warranty work or go back the the factory. CW sells RVs they don’t build them. Do your homework, don’t fall for their sales pitches and be prepared to walk away or to speak to the dealership manager. You’ll be fine.

A good CW will bring the RV to their location if they believe you are a serious buyer. We bought our MH from our local CW after finding it online at a CW over 4 hours away. They transported it to our location for us to look at without so much as a purchase order or deposit. Like everything else there are good CWs and not so good CWs.

Is it a new unit? If so you can take it to any authorized dealer for warranty work. We bought ours in Virginia, had warranty work done at 2 different rv centers in Atlanta.

Dealers are not required to service units they did not sell. Camping World will not service brands their individual locations do not sell. You got lucky.

Some CWs are fine and really make an effort to provide good service and satisfy/generate customers. Some are not.

Camping World are franchisees, some are good, some are bad. I bought my first Class C from one, then discovered they would not do maintenance on the truck, not even an oil change. Would do warranty work on the coach if I placed a deposit in case it I was crazy and it wasn't broken... I won't do business with that CW again. I have done business with another CW, and they have been ok to work with.

I won't buy another motorhome from either CW. I have found another dealer that does do full truck service work (except Ford warranty & recalls). I will buy from them.

I've found more than one authorized dealer that won't provide warranty work unless they sold the unit. You can pay out of pocket and get reimbursed if you are lucky, I'd find a local reputable rv repair facility first and see what they will work on.

I bought a Thor at the Hershey show from Camping World. The dealer was in Syracuse, NY. The closest Camping World dealer was 100 miles from my home in NJ. It took weeks to get an appointment for Warranty service. Each trip was 200 miles round trip. I would have (and should have) paid more and bought from a LOCAL dealer. They once kept my coach for 5 weeks for minor repairs. If you don't buy it from them, you're an orphan!

Purchased our Omni XG32 from Lazy Days in Tampa FL, we live in MO and have been using Trans West RV and Trailer with no issues, maybe you have one in your area.

We purchased our Vegas from Le Messa and had our warranty work done at CW. Makes no sense to turn down warranty work since they get paid by the manufacturer (in this case, Thor) to do the work.

Plus a huge number of service visits turn into trade in/ purchases because folks tend to check out the inventory while they’re there - and already frustrated. Some CWs might refuse your service work but some won’t. You can check your local store before you buy.

My experience with Camping World in Kingston NY has been pretty good. When I wanted some work done and Camping World could not get my in when I preferred, I contacted a local RV mobile repair. The work was warrantee. Thor authorized the mobile guy to do the work. Perhaps there can be that arrangement for you?

It never hurts to check with your local Dealer. As was mentioned: they might be able to get that RV transported to them for you.
At the very least: ask them if they would service it for you.

Question

We also purchased our coach that was at theHershey rv show in 2018 from cw in Syracuse N.Y. but at the show we added a washer and dryer, they were installed, pdi and we picked it up at cw Harrisburg Pa. 15 minutes from Hershey, and we've had warranty work done through our good Sam(cw) extended warranty at several different cw. What few problems we had under Thor warranty I called Thor and they sent me the parts and I fixed myself, axxera radio, basement door latch, slow rise shade and new seat covers for dinette. So far happy with cw and extended warranty.

Camping world is an easy target.
Go, today, to your nearest cw, take two dozen donuts with you, ask the service guy what you asked us.
Shake hands, tell him you're looking for a home based shop to add inverters and second ac and steering stuff.
And while you're there, ask the sales manager if he'll go get that rv for you and dealer trade or buy it.
Unless it's in a different state I see no reason your nearest dealer couldn't do all the paperwork on that sale.
