Exclamation New Delano motorhome quality issues

Hi,
I purchased a new 2023 Delano 24TT motorhome from a dealer on March 20, 2024. It is now 5/7 and have not yet been able to use the motorhome due to multiple issues found since purchasing. Still waiting on parts to get to dealer service before they will continue working on it. See list below on what was found so far and waiting to be repaired.

Anyone else seeing quality/manufacturing issues this bad?

1. Step does not work - needs motor replacement.
2. Rear remote not working (light control) needs replacement.
3. Multiplex panel thermostat repair - reads constant 86 degree temp in coach. Can't control air or heat.
4. Multiplex LP tank level reading '0' when tank is 1/2 full.
5. Driverís side door had cigarette burn marks when unit was picked up.
6. House battery low voltage when picked up (10.7 volts), boiled dry when plugged into shore power. Replaced battery myself, works fine now.
7. Hot water braided hose to kitchen sink loose at fitting and leaking.
8. Water leak at toilet base.
9. Fresh water tank leaks into compartment, drains out in one day.
10. Leveling system not working on level ground. All lights flashing.

How many of these did you know prior to delivery?

When you did your due diligence before your purchase;
What did 2,000 reviews of quality say?

When you read posts here before posting yourself, did people speak to your question?

If we all did have those problems, how will this help you at your mechanic?

Have you tried a different shop?

If we tell you the simple fixes do you have the tools and ability to do the fixes?

Will you do the fixes to get your vehicle out of the dealers shop?

We need to know about this so we know how to help and what advice to give.

Im with Duck. I believe every MH purchaser should expect to do some little tweaks themselves ( not saying you arent willing. However just parking it at the dealer and waiting isnt the right thing either. Unfortunately your PDI should have found many of these issues and not taken delivery if not fixed. I think Id call Thor customer support and I'd find another dealer. Go to the dealer and spend time with the owner. Sounds like you should get there face to face and communicate your needs. We have owned different brands and different models from popups to a 40' Class A pusher and now have a Super C. Even the gent parked next to me in DC recently with his Prevost Marathon ( had out his grinder and power tools) was doing repairs.. Even brand new homes need your touches. Ask the dealer for his help.. often times we might even learn something we could be doing wrong. I found when I follow the lippert instructions to the "T' it works like a charm. Not being critical just helping ya off the ledge.. The delano is a very nice coach. DOn't let the issues or what you think now ruin your enjoyment.

Thanks for the responses. Some quick info - new to the forum, 40+ year RV owner (TT, 5th Wheel, Motorhomes). Posted somewhat out of frustration at the number of issues keeping me from using the RV. Items found at first - step not working, house battery low voltage, LP reading empty. When picked up, step was operating (mechanic 'tapped' motor with hammer to get it going, new motor on order, not working now). Didn't notice low battery voltage when picked up due to Sprinter engine running causing house battery voltage to be up.

Prior purchase reviews showed Thor products to have few quality issues.

None of the items noted before initial pick up were fixed by the dealer as promised. Others found after getting it home. I'm working with the dealer, but they are slow to respond on service updates. Looks like a Thor quality issue and dealer service department issue.

I contacted Thor customer service, they did give opinion on fixes for a couple of the issues, but said they would not contact the dealership to discuss with them. I will give them a call again since I have found other problems since first talking with them.

I'm used to a few issues with new units, but not to this extent. I do have tools/ability for most of these issues, but want the dealer to make good on promises to 'make me a happy and satisfied customer'.

Parts are supposed to arrive this or next week. I'm taking back to dealer service early next week and will leave until repaired or will get to another shop if taking too long.

Thanks again and I'll post updates later.

Update - My Delano motorhome is back at the Forest River RV Nashville since 5/15. I tried to contact the service department for any updates every other day for two weeks, always get voicemail and leave a message to contact me and get no response. I believe this is partly a staffing issue as they usually have one service advisor handling all the customers daily.

5/29/24 - contacted Thor Customer Support, talked with a rep and explained all my issues. They are supposed to get with the dealer and get back to me. They did give me a list of alternate Thor repair dealers for future use. No other info back yet.

6/8/24 - got an email from the Forest River service advisor stating all items are repaired except the multiplex coach temperature reading. They originally ordered a freeze sensor for the overhead unit - didn't fix the temp reading problem. They ordered an AC Gateway as the next step. It's not supposed to arrive until the end of June.

Thoughts on sending Thor a Lemon Law Refund letter next?

You'll fail to no end at the lemon law thing.
Horribly and humiliatingly.

Any good faith they've thrown your way(no matter what you perceive) will evaporate and the dealer will toss you out and an
Elaine at the doctor
Type note will be on your permanent record.

If you're for a month grounded due to some toy temperature reading device....
Did your prior rv's all have this feature?
What does it do?

How far are you from the dealer that you haven't gone there to verify?

You think Tennessee has a lemon law for RVs? For house issues?

Thanks Ducksface - I figured the Lemon Law route would be nearly impossible, but didn't know if anyone else had any success.
Previous RVs had the standard thermostat, this one has a touchscreen 'multiplex' that controls heat/air, lights, water pump, generator, etc. The issue is it shows the coach interior temp is a constant 86 degrees no matter the actual temp. Heat and air won't turn on or off depending on the temp set point. I plan on having them finish this last issue and take it to another Thor service shop for future work. Thor customer service sent me a list of several shops within 2 hours of home.

Why!!!!

I am new to this party but despite the woes, aren't you saying they are saying every thing is fixed but the AC Gateway and it is on order?

Maybe I am a fuddie duddie, but I would be down there thanking them all, handing out donuts while I make sure all of the other things are really fixed. Tell them how great they are and how much I love my RV. Let them know I plan a trip this weekend and I will bring the RV back at the end of the month when they verify they have part AND can do the work. Don't forget to tell them about that vacation you have planned on the 4th of July with the RV.

See which states have lemon laws for RVs. Tennessee does have an RV Lemon Law according to this article.

HI dkoldman,
Unfortunately the motorhome has been unusable since purchase on 3/20. On 6/8, the service shop has just notified me all repairs are done except the AC Gateway replacement on the HVAC control. Problem with it is that it always shows the coach inside temp at 86 degrees. With warm weather here, we can't leave our little dog in the coach due to this issue - the AC will run, but won't shut off because it thinks it's 86 degrees in the coach. I can turn it on and off manually, but need it working correctly.

That's beyond the borderline of logic as an excuse to not use your rv.
Are you afraid of the dog freezing to death?

Take a step back, look at the logic you just used for not picking up the rv, then get back to us.

Go get your rv. You're taking up shop space that could be used for someone with a critical problem.

What's the real reason for all of this?

We had someone on this forum who used a similar
My rv is unusable
Tack
To justify the repo they prayed for due to the financial mistake of buying the rv.
'I am not making good on a single payment until this rv is perfect'.

Also

Does anyone besides me remember the lady who sold her rv before she ever used it because of some rv soap she had used on the exterior?
'Yes. The soap company 100% fixed everything. It has never left our yard, it sits where the delivery driver parked it upon our purchase, we've never driven it, but this soap thing was just too much'.

I'm not being accusatory. I'm refreshing memories of past logics.

That's why you never rely on wordsmith articles. Go to the source: in this case the Tennessee statutes.

Pretend to be me for a second and just having read your entire ordeal today.

Now read my post again.

Hopefully you will see why I would be buying donuts. My responses are based on today. My focus / outlook is on what I may need tomorrow from the same Dealer.

Now if I had your coach today, and had a planned trip with a little, big, ugly or even pretty dog, I would simply turn my AC ON in manual mode. If if got too cold I would set back to AUTO slight inconvenience and the dog will never know.

Now if your RV does not allow you to turn AC ON in manual mode, you might actually have an issue or beef. But lets say this was really pressing to me, I would pay $50 bucks to get a cheap thermostat controller and direct wire temporarily to my AC unit until they fixed.

Not trying to make excuses for the problems you have had and still have today, just trying to help you move forward with the hand you have been dealt. Sometimes we have bad hands dealt our way in life. No need to try to sue the Casino, play another game until you can come back to play the table you had intended.

Yes I think so.
Some Walmart chemical purchase, good company product had sold out to bad people, formula change, bad new company sent a detailer, rv looked perfect...

Sold it(trying to). Never even started the engine other than us encourging her to at least put the key in the ignition (if I remember correctly.)
Bought on-line sight unseen, contracted through the mail, and delivered to her door.

We spoke a bit by pm.
Her husband wouldn't drive it and she couldn't drive it.
She alluded they were teetering on divorce due to the rv being a last straw.
Then she quit corresponding.

But,
This all was 5ish years ago and I romanticize and grandiousize on occasion.

Goodness - I certainly don't think it would get below 32 F in the coach, but below 60 F possibly. When we do travel, we leave our dog in the coach for hours at a time while we sightsee, visit relatives, etc. Why expose a beloved pet to uncomfortable conditions unnecessarily, I won't. I'm going to have the Dealer finish the repair and then get the motorhome for an overdue tryout trip.

Dkoldman - read my post again as well so you can understand the air/heat/thermostat/multiplex issue.

Anyway - as stated in the beginning of this post - 40+ years RVing in trailers, 5th wheels and motorhomes, so not a newbie at this.

So, y'all have a nice day and please don't get snippy with responses.

I understood complexity of thermostat issues, they say ( actually you said they said) they don't get parts until end of June. I said given all of the other items were supposedly fixed, I would be thankful and go get my coach to enjoy now.

In regard to 86 degrees, It is clear it is stuck on 86 degrees so you can't control AC or heat. But that is automatic. I was trying to tell you to turn OFF the auto setting and manually turn on your AC or furnace. I can turn my AC on even if it is 68 degrees in coach, I can also turn it on if it is 86 degrees even though the setting may be reading 86. If your unit does not permit I also said I would by a simple thermostat very cheaply and temporarily wire it direct to my AC / Furnace while I wait on them to come fix. I would only do this to use the RV now and next few weeks. I hope you don't view the suggestions to help as snippy? Maybe you didn't want help but group support to complain about the problem. It is very simple to wire a AC furnace to thermostat, just get the manual or call the AC/Furnace Mfg and buy the cheapest thermostat you can find. Me and my doggy would be on a trip this weekend. When I did take it back to Dealer, they should have the parts and I simply take my thermostat back off and keep for backup should it ever happen again.

Good luck...
