2019 Thor Freedom Elite 30FE
Hello All,
I would like to use this thread as sort of a history or blog of questions, changes, modifications, maintenance and things like that, specially for the 30FE. We have been using the rig quite a bit (at least we think so) this summer. We have made some changes to it, have some complaints about it, and have some thing we really like about it. For me, it will be handy to have information about this rig in one place. We have had this rig for about 11 months now, so I will do a bunch of posting to get caught up.
So here is my first introductory thread.

My wife left like she could come in contact with the 12v port in the night table while sleeping. We put a rubber cover on it.

You need to edit the photo (slight crop will work) and then save the photo before posting. That should correct the sideways posting issue.

Made a place to store all the kids toys instead of in the overhead bunk. This is the dinette seat near the front seats.

Made a place to store our shoes. It would always drive me nuts that they were just out in the open. So the dinette booth needed to be shorn up a little so took off the backing. Made a T shaped area to store shoes. And then just cheap vinyl to try and make it classy haha. The shoe holder right now has 8 pairs of shoes started with mine at size 13 down to a 4 year olds. I am not a great carpenter but something that I wished they would had thought of.

Pulled into our site and I notice a bunch of bee's around the furnace. I thought I ran over a hive so I let them settle down a bit. Came back a while later to hook up and they were still there. I realized they must have had a nest in the furnace exhaust. Which was a bit weird since I walk past the furnace often while parked at home and never noticed them. I sprayed them with bee spray and then turned on the furnace for a bit to cook them out. All gone. I used the outdoor shower to rinse off the camper. I later installed one of those square screens over the exhaust.

Good idea. We have been considering the same thing for shoes and another one on the door side for dog leashes.

Oh that’s a good idea, amazing how much space could be used more wisely.

The TV placement in the cab over was clearly an after thought by Thor since it blocked by the cabinets and does not rotate out enough.
We took the weird pad off the arm. Then cut slots in the arm to allow the TV to slide further out on the arm to clear the cabinets. Then we mounted the bracket the TV is mounted on to a piano hinge. This lets the TV flip up and over the mattress topper.
End result is the TV will clear the cabinet and sit at the edge of the mattress. The hinge will allow us to flip up the TV so that is clears our mattress topper when we pull it out or put it away.
We added a sound bar also since we cannot hear the TV over either the AC or the generator. Sound bar was like $90 at Walmart. We had temporarily mounted it to the rear of the TV but it made moving the TV awkward. So it is sitting on the mattress against the passenger side wall. It will stay there until it becomes a problem but so far it is good. We probably could have just replaced the TV with one that has an amplifier in it for the same money but didn't think abut that till after.

We have been trying to figure out the best place to store bottles and jugs. We had them in some drawers but, due to the weight, they would open when we drive.
We built a wood grid under the front dinette bench. It hold 4 gallon jugs and 12 2 liter bottles vertically. Works great. We are going to take it apart and move it to the front bench at the bunks because it seems like the only time we need to get into the dinette bench is when someone is sitting there.

I bit disappointed in some of the construction quality. I didn't expect the rig to be built like a watch but some of the things have me scratching my head.
Last trip we noticed a leak under the sink. The ABS swivel fitting at the top of the trap was cracked and leaking. I order a couple of traps and a couple of fittings, one set for the replacement and another for spares since the swivel is not a common fitting.
Took it apart last night. So the reason why it broke is because the weight of water filled drain line for about 20 inches plus the weight of the vertical pipe to the vent is entirely cantilevered off this fitting. No wonder why is broke.
As I started to replace the parts I realized the horizontal pipe from the trap is actually pressing against the bottom of the sink because there is no extension from the sink drain. This makes it very difficult to get the threaded connections back together and also applies force on the swivel.
We have always seen water in the drain. We thought it was a slow draining sink or maybe partially clogged. We were actually looking at the water in the trap through the drain because there is no extension.
I am going to redo the entire thing and eliminate the swivel and support the cantilever and use parts off the shelf at Lowes.
