SE22 will not switch SP to GEN when it runs

Thor SE22 (2022) struggles to switch back and forth SP to 12V to GEN. Where to start.

Constant struggle for 2yr. I carried a Honda generator for 2yr, to charge house batteries 12v, to randomly, get Onan to run.

Once got ONAN running, once I let it run for 8hrs went racing . To he'll with It.. run fuel thru it. All race buddies laughed... ONAN is about 25% capable of being reliable.

Start looking at your transfer switch. Folks reported loose cables. But first make sure the breaker on the generator hasn’t tripped.

Breaker on Generator? Where would that be located? It ran for about 5min, never switched, then died. Has not restarted in 8 attempts. Going to my over fill crankcase method. Plugged in Honda backup, won't switch, throwing shore power fault.

There is no "12V" in the switching.

There is an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) that is normally located behind the Power Center. It's default position is to allow SP through. When you run the generator, after a short delay, the ATS will switch to allow the generator power through. Newer ATS switches used by Thor also have surge/voltage protection built-in and will isolate bad power.

Find your ATS
Determine it's capabilities, find the manual
Check the ATS wire connections (common Thor issue)
Troubleshoot the ATS per the manual.

Then tell us about you separate "12V" problem.

Transfer switch? Is that the thing under dining seat?
I've hit that with a hammer a few times.

Does it actually say Transfer switch on it?

A recommendation. Go to the Thor Owners Resource site and download your build sheet and the manuals for your coach. The manual should include one for the generator and ATS. Those manuals should answer a lot of your questions such as where the breaker is located on the generator. Normally the breaker is in plain view when looking at the generator. Gen not starting is a separate issue.

An example of a 30 amp ATS:

It may not be the one you have but the ATS can easily be determined by the fact it has at least three, 10 gauge Romex style wiring going to it.

12 volt should work going down the road IF your battery disconnect (to the house batteries) is connected. AKA Master Power or USE/STORE switch.

Onan is excellent. They kept my coach 25 hours and gave 2 year warranty. All I saw was a little oil on outside & they went to work..

Are you priming your Onan generator before starting it?

Yes...until light comes on. It's the low oil sensor. When switch flashes red, it needs to be overfill. I DO THIS BY DRIVING DRV SIDE UP ON TO 2 X 8 LUMBER.

That doesn't prime it. Read your generator manual. You hold the switch in the STOP direction for 25 to 45 seconds after the light comes on.

Mine was until light comes on. Carb is the Size of your thumb, not a Holley Dominator.

I pull gov lever it tries to start, it's oil level sensor. 3mi down my gravel road sl I splashes oil enough to stop fault code.

Oil Level Sensors.

Generators have oil level sensors for safety purposes. Fail safe.
Common problem on generators, they can corrode from sitting.

My Honda is a great generator, it has the issue when it sits over Winter for 6 months.

Unless Onan has changed it again, most Onan 4000 generators do not have a low oil level switch as it was removed after Spec A or Spec B in the mid 1990's.

Check your specific model's documentation.
