Spare Tire Carriers

I was considering the RoadMaster Spare Tire Carrier and contact RoadMaster about the towing weight rating. The carrier reduces the towing capacity to 6,000 lbs down from the Omni 10,000 lbs. Not a problem for my cargo trailer with RZR. But if I decide to go to a car hauler the reduced towing may become an issue.

If you're pulling a trailer can't you just put the spare in the trailer?

That was my thought. My Roadmaster spare tire carrier is really to transport our spare when we do not have additional storage available - a trailer. If we pull a trailer or a trailer that is pushing weight limits of the Roadmaster, we simply remove spare and Roadmaster Spare Tire Carrier and go with our OEM setup on the Vegas.

My 6.75-19.5 steel rim with mounted Sumitomo tire weighs 104 lbs. I can roll it with difficulty, but not lift it. I do carry the the dolly spare (42 lbs) in the truck bed (bolted and locked down).

The 19.5s are large and heavy. Not the easiest to move around. And would take up room on the trailer. But my biggest disappointment is an attachment for a class 4 hitch that drops the GTW to less than a class 3 hitch. Seems like poor engineering. But if all you want is a spare tire carrier then it is the perfect solution.

I don’t catty a spare for the MH. Duals on rear. If front flat I’ll use a rear a limp to somewhere.

My toad is a Ram 1500 and due to the height difference between the Ram attachments and the Omni hitch, needed a drop down of 6" so that spare mount wouldn't work. IF I decide a spare is essential, I guess my only option is put in the back of the Ram. I also at my age and such can't lift a spare that size so I'm not rushing to that solution.

It accommodates a slide out and carries a spare. Sold the rv and have it sitting in storage if anyone in west Texas wants it for half price! It sure was a life saver. Only used for a year. I also have a new spare for a 2017 Thor Gemini.
I spent $1000 for the set up and sold to camping world without it.
