Well, that pretty much eliminates any modern chassis.

That is not Thor.... that is the EPA. Most diesels will go into Limp Mode if you run out of DEF or have a major emissions fault. That is the downside of the diesels but I will take that trade-off for the benefits.

I think that Limp Mode is better that it just shutting down.

I think even the gassers have limp mode now...Even my old mule. He will even go into shutdown if you try to get him to cross a bridge...so things haven't changed so much. (FWIW 2 mules and a high wheeled covered wagon was one of the first RVs) JG

I'm just reluctant to let Mercedes install a partial limp with their fix for the cheat devise. I have until Oct 2022 before I run out of time for emission repair. I'll wait this out asking the same question, how does your Sprinter perform after the emission repair installation?

If you wait long enough: the thing won't run at all...
As for me: I'll get whatever update the "Mother Ship" says to get...

I’d have the upgrade done and then enjoy the motorhome as much as possible because the next compact MH may not be available as a diesel.

Diesels are becoming more difficult to justify, and when demand gets low enough manufacturers will pull the plug. Objectively there are too many issues not worth the trouble for lighter vehicles.

RAM quit building diesel ProMaster years ago, and Ford suspended introduction of the “new” diesel Transit two years ago, so how long will Mercedes find it viable? I would bet that if Mercedes had a good truck-ready gas engine, they would already be offering it on Sprinter Cutaways. Future looks bleak for smaller diesels in my opinion, so enjoy while you can.

To each his own, think I'll bypass the Mercedes payola and stick with what I have. Very happy with the power and performance.
Not a diesel newbie.
