23 Magnitude RS36 - Auto Level Function & Listing to the right

So, I have two questions for the wisdom of this board- they may be related and they may not be.

1: The auto level function on my unit has not worked properly, really since day one. I can manual level using the hydraulic jacks, however pressing "auto level" results in usually only one outcome; the rear jacks deploy and raise the unit until it is level (via bubble level on floor) but the right side rear tires are off the ground and the front jacks never deploy.

I reset the zero point calibration per Lippert's owner manual. I performed this reset on a level surface, with the motorhome mostly loaded for a trip. Loaded as if I was leaving to go camping.

While parked in said level location, it auto leveled itself once correctly. I retracted the jacks, and performed another auto level, and it decided to use the rear jacks alone and lift the right rear tire off the ground. Same result I had been having since I received the unit.

Any ideas or pointers of things to check out? Reset zero point calibration again?

Question #2
After (or technically during) our first trip with the motorhome, I was told by a motorist that I was leaning to the right. After the trip, on a level surface, I took measurements:

Right Side Wheel Well, from 12 o'clock position to ground is 35-1/2"
Right Side Rear Bumper Corner- 20-1/4" to ground.

Left Side Wheel Well, from 12 o'clock position to ground is 38".
Left Side Rear Bumper Corner- 23-1/4"

To me, that's is a large amount of deviation side to side. I wonder if the suspension was installed incorrectly? The freshwater tank (75 gal) is located on the right side of the vehicle, and was full both during the trip and at time of measurement. The full body length slide is on the left (drivers) side of the vehicle, so I kinda thought that would be the heavier side...

Now, does the second issue have anything to do with the first? I hesitate to empty 75 gallons of water into my driveway to test with an empty fresh tank, because water is not cheap. I am interested in comments/observations and theories to test from you fine folk.

Never auto level...they only know how to raise...not lower and adjust accordingly. Most of the Super C's list...mine did to the right. Got tired of people telling me my tires were low. Its just piss poor Thor engineering. They are beautiful coaches...just a pile of crap construction otherwise. You'll get to know it pretty well over the next 12 months. Not trying to sound ugly...I have/had 4 years of "right to say" under my belt.

If you are ever around Livingston, TX, the Escapees RV club has a 4 wheel scales setup. They usually carry it to all their rallies. It is nice to know your wheel weights. I used wheel scales to adjust the position of my Sumo Springs, so I was able to almost level the coach at traveling weight.



Most states have portable truck weight scales. If you happen across one, they are usually happy to give you a weight tally sheet (gross form) free of charge. I was able to get my coach's tare wheel weights from plant 750 when I visited the factory.


For the un-initiated portable weight stations are setup on a level pad and consist of 4 individual axle scales and a recording station linked to the scales. They only weigh one side of the truck; then double for axle weights. If any axle or gross is over, then you may accept the weight readings or be escorted to a fixed weight station. If the scale crew is not busy, the will usually move the scales around for a two axle RV. We did when I was weighing trucks in NC

My Hurricane looks like it is leaning to the drivers side, but the floor is level when sitting on the wheels. I take it as a sign of owning a Thor coach. As to the auto level, I always use mine. I had trouble like you until I disconnected the control panel. When I hooked it back up and reset the base level all jacks began to go down and it levels right up. So I use auto level all the time.

The ultra level used in the omni/magnitude lines is a low end entry level system and problematic. When I had the omni XG32 I tried the auto level and it was violent and couldn't find level if it tried. It also over shot level and would end up with front tires off the ground. When I say violent, if you were standing up inside you could easily be thrown on your butt if you didn't hold on. I tried re-setting the null to no avail. With the weak front cap design, you need to be gentle with the thing and only use manual leveling.

I've had several RVs with leveling systems, HWH, Lippert Level Up and Ultralevel, and Equalizer. The ultra level is by far the worst one I've had. Best was HWH followed by Level Up, then Equalizer and trailing way behind the ultra. Ultra only in crappy design.

Thanks for the feedback! Maybe I'll look into rear airbags to level the coach.

Sometimes at the CAT scales you have enough side room to get one side of the RV on the scales. In that case you weigh the whole thing which gives axle weights. Then go for a second weigh with just one side on the scale platforms. Simple math will give you individual corner weights that are "close enough". Second weighing if done right away is usually around $5.00 +-.

i will investigate the control panel and disconnect it, but based on other replies it seems i might just want to use auto level to save my front cap.

Good info, I'm not ready to upgrade leveling systems yet, but mine is very violent when retracting the jacks. It will bounce you around if you arent expecting it.

Thank you- sometimes I get lost in the minute cost details but this is a good view at the larger picture... guess ill dump it and re-measure.

I suggest NOT auto level. In the omni/magnitude most will agree. Judge has stated as such.

Absolutely correct, I was typing too fast. I meant manual level as stated by others above. Thanks for pointing that out, my bad.

Check to see if the autolevel module is properly screwed.
If for any reason it is lose it can give different readings.
I always read that first ones to go down should be the front ones....
Anyway, never auto level, only use manual.

Dump the water and measure again.
If it is the water weight, add airbags to compensate for that.
