Super C...New Owner Review...So Far

I've had numerous "campers" in my life with the first being a 1982 31' Prowler, rear bunk house. This was back in the days where walls were flat, ceilings were low and every component was a stand alone item, i.e., roof air was a self contained Coleman...all controls on the unit with no "ducts"...furnace was a single unit popping out the wall...no microwave...gas only SMALL fridge and seams by the thousands. Basic but state of the art in it's day. Today's RV's are an amazing conglomerate of complex, multi-function devices, led by the demands of buyers for more convenience, more space, more push-button automation and more home-like features. I searched for over 2 years before purchasing the 35SF. We've been on four trips now, abused every feature, and haven't had anything serious pop up. Build quality seems excellent and a lot of thought and engineering has gone into the placement of everything. The new multiplex wiring system is amazing...water pump switch in 5 different locations...lights can be controlled from multiple locations, etc., etc. Safety features and auto lock-outs are a bit aggravating but understandable. The power of the F550 chassis is unbelievable. Over 2,800 miles now, mostly on cruise at 64MPH and not a single downshift in the transmission. Mileage is averaging 11.3 and dash A/C cools entire unit while underway. with all the negative reviews everywhere...I'm beginning to believe the theories of the few that get a "lemon" speak the loudest and many take this as a general opinion of Thor owners and assume everything they make is junk. Not by my standards. The RV industry as a whole is very challenged today with quality labor and production quotas. There is also the over-loaded, over-abused and neglected units that will fail at a given point. We pack only what we need and haven't sold the house and moved "everything" we own into the MH. The higher up the price ladder you go...better components and QC follow. The more dedicated build facility you have for given units, the better build quality you get. I am very impressed with everything that's gone into this coach and would buy it again with no questions!

Good to hear positive stuff. Have a racing buddy with a Chateau super C. He loves it.

The F-550 setup is robust.

We have thought about bigger unit but this thing fits well.

We just purchased a 35SB (3 weeks ago) and love how the F550 drives and tows. It is a night and day difference from our previous C class.

We haven't been as lucky as you with the quality control on our rig, but we are working through all of it and so far they are easy fixes.

Our biggest issue has been our slide - it doesn't like to go in and out easily. It seems if we are on our leveling jacks it makes it wonky and won't go out all the way or come in all the way. If you raise the jacks up, it works. Not sure this is how it should be, but we have had it at the shop once for it and after re-connecting the motor plug that came loose (while we were at a campground and had our slide stuck out for 3 hours trying to troubleshoot it) there is nothing they can find wrong with it.

Overall though we love it!

Liz

Sounds like some body torquing going on somewhere. Maybe the jacks need re-syncing? Put slides out then lower jacks. I manually lower jacks just enough to touch ground and stabilize the coach. I never use the auto-level feature. It feels like a space coast ride if you do. Also, I'm very hesitant about overloading the full wall slide. Slides are my greatest fear in any RV.

We start the paperwork for a 35SF on Monday. The Super C sure seems to be a major step up from our class C.

Gritz - Similar situation - my wife had been in a trailer for the past 12 years. Been through 3 differnet trucks, and finally settled on the 2013 RAM 2500 diesel that towed and drove like nothing else. Like you, we started looking a couple of years ago for a MH since it is difficult for my wife to connect/disconnect the truck and trailer. We looked at several models of all shapes and sizes, even drove a new 33' class A DP that we started negotiations on. Then earlier this year, we found a lightly used, but loved 2015 Chateau Super C 33SW. Took a look, drove it, and made a deal the same day. We were sold. We had looked at the 2018 models, the dealer near us had one in stock, but is was bigger than we wanted. Most of the state parks in FL only have spaces for up to 34', so wanted to make sure we were within that. Bottom line, this MH is AWESOME! Easy to drive, plenty of power, easy to set up, get in and go. We haven't had any issues so far. I have found and corrected a few maintenance items that may have been neglected by the previous owner - loose battery cables, adjusting storage bay doors, and a few areas of cracking roof sealer. BTW, when it comes time for fuel and air filters, you can buy them at the auto parts store since they are the same as the Super Duty trucks. All are easy to get to and change with no special tools.
