Super C shopping

Hello all,

We are shopping for our first RV.

We like the looks/price of the 2014-2019 Thor Fourwinds/Chateau Super C and are looking for real-world owner feedback on this year/model range. We have run across negative rumors about Thor quality and customer service. We plan on using a certified RV inspection service for the pre-purchase.

We like the super C platform because we are going to pull an 8.5 x 18 enclosed trailer with three motorcycles and gear. Estimated weight at under #7000. We will be full-time in whatever unit we wind up with.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Welcome to the forum.

First donít worry about Thor customer service because if you buy used youíre not entitled to any service from Thor. What they do provide, and they will through the resource center, will be icing on the cake.

We looked at the the Thor Super Cs and went with the Entegra Accolade instead. We are between 50 and 75 percent and the Thorís were too small for our desires.

Enjoy the search.

Thanks for the input.

We will look at Entegra. I see that they didn't have a super c until 2020

That is correct. Same coach as the Seneca but different name. Senecaís have been around for quite some time.

3 years into it and would do the same exact thing again. Search the forum and posts here...tons of them specific to the Super C. As long as you do all due diligence on a used unit, you will love the Super C. I tow a 20' aluminum car hauler with an XT5...no issues. The additional half bath is the bomb!!

When you say same coach as Seneca, does that mean they are built in the same factory or have just the same chassis?

I'm glad you are having a positive experience. I read a lot of horror stories on these threads. An friend was telling me about poor Thor quality and then I read that Thor purchased Jayco a few years back.

We are also shopping for a Jayco Seneca. Due diligence is the key.

Thor Industries bought Jayco. Jayco is a separate operating entity under the Thor Industries umbrella. They are not managed in any way by Thor Motor Coach.

Built in the same factory on a separate production line.

Different models are built in different plants and the build quality and materials quality goes up with the price level you choose. Super C's are built in Plant 250. This plant (in 2019) holds the record of the least warranty claims and the least issues with the end-of-line quality inspections. I toured 3 plants while in Wakarusa. The sales rep that did the public tour (fist one I took) actually took me and my daughter on two other personal tours with just the two of us. We had lots of time to ask questions and climb through them...while in production. Most tours are "after hours" and from a little distance.

I am content with my Magnitude SV34 even after several issues. But if you are looking at Super C's, I would also look at the following (even if used):

- Dynamax
- Renegade
- Nexus

If I wanted to spend the money I would buy a Dynamax but after a lot of research I am impressed with the materials that Nexus uses in the Ghost Super C. I also like their slide mechanism.

The Nexus Ghost is priced between the Dynamax Force HD and the Magnitude. If I was in the market to replace my Magnitude, I would probably go with the Ghost.

Super C vs Class A

Anybody here switch from Class A to Super C or vice versa? Any regrets on the purchase?

A few months ago traded in a class A Berkshire for a Super C Magnitude. No regrets. Easy to drive and like the floor plan.

Super C

I went from a class A to a super C, have not had any of the problems that seem to come up in discussions. I added solar, and a bunch of other things, we just came back from going across country. The only thing I will mention, look for a 2015+. They changed the tracking to a dual track starting in 2015 for the wall slide, prior to that they used a single which did make problems.
