SV34 remodel

We have a 2021 Thor Magnitude SV34. We just returned from a 2 month trip to the western US National Parks and really struggled with the lack of space between the Dinette and the Theater seating. We have a Golden Retriever who pretty much occupies the space when we try to relax in the theater seating. Getting the foot rests out is next to impossible. We are thinking of cutting back the Dinette 16" to allow for more room and it will certainly help when we stop for lunch on the road and cannot open the slide. Has anyone tried this? Would appreciate your thoughts. It will be a lot cheaper than a new RV with slides on both sides. Attached are the before and proposed after. Thanks.

Thor essentially did that with the Axis/Vegas 24.3 floor plan. A narrow dinette is a great space saver provided you only need to seat 2 people or sleep 1 child or adult.

If you do a forum search, you will find many who modified or replaced dinettes. It doesn’t seem too difficult, particularly since yours is not built into a slide.

Below are pictures of Axis 24.3 narrow dinette. Notice dinette is not much wider than kitchen counter.

I have not seen anyone do this with a Omni / Magnitude.

There is only two of us and a small dog in our SV34. We find the table space does come in handy and this year my wife bought two small rolling baskets to store things in that fit right under the table. I also used the space under the dinette seats for my lithium battery conversion. I also installed a central vac under one of the dinette seats so I am using all of that space.

I would say what you want to accomplish should be doable. The seat belts can be unbolted easily. I did that to remove the metal structure to give me more space for the batteries. You can remove the faux leather from the wood, cut it all down, redo the faux leather and reinstall the drawers.

Cutting down the table may be an issue since it is just cheap wood and a crappy vinyl cover. You might want to just make your own table.

Thanks Judge and Chance.

I started the demo and everything is going smoothly. It helps that the flooring continues under the seating. We found replacement cushions in the size we needed. I have cut down the metal frame to keep the seat belts and having re-welded to the correct size. I also designed a table support and cutting down the existing top should be easy or it will be an easy replacement. Electronics in the entry steps were all modular and easily removed. I found a shop to modify the covering of the step wall too and I will be able to keep the storage drawers under the seats. So far so good.

Thanks for the feedback. It is much cheaper than replacing the RV - especially since I have all the factory issues resolved. Safe travels!

The things we do for our dogs.

Please let us know how it turns out — maybe with a few pictures.

Thought you might like to see the finished product.

The dinette was cut back 16" and the factor furnished theater seats were replaced with Lippert's Thomas Payne Seismic Series electric recliners with heat and massage. We now have enough clearance to have a comfortable meal when we stop for lunch and can't open the slide-out. The Golden Retriever can now lay at our feet even with the reclined seats. Running the heat ducts through the console was not an issue.
