So it starts, cap separation

Well it seems I have the COVD (Cab Over Vehicle Detachment) just over drivers side door. I contacted Thor and they said I have a screw cover missing - I know, their answer makes absolutely no sense (I did send them pictures of the issue). I am on the road until next week. Should I seal the area or leave it open? If seal, what is recommended sealant?

I would say, “welcome to the club”, but instead I’ll say, lots of ideas here on repairing, but, since yours is 2021, hope thor treats you right.

I wouldn’t touch it until a dealer or Thor actually verified and confirms in writing there is a problem

If you try doing anything they can say you caused or compounded the problem and refuse the claim.

I'm on a trip and at the end of each travel day I inspect the areas. I also took before pictures so I can compare and tell if something is starting. So far so good but some really rough WV interstate, I-64.

Also it's the Tango variant, named after Thor

I'm hoping and watching carefully that mine doesn't get the COVID T. The only way to get herd immunity is for Thor to properly "inject" the caps with secure fasteners (vaccination)

I am guessing every Omni / Magnitude will eventually start exhibiting this problem. Those who put on a lot of miles and / or use AutoLevel will likely see it sooner than others.

I personally would only allow the Thor Service Center in Wakarusa, IN perform the repair. That is where I had mine fixed.

I would not trust a dealer. I might trust a shop that specializes in major RV repair and restoration but under warranty the Factory Service Center is your best option. Ask Thor Warranty Customer Service to get you scheduled in Wakarusa for the best chance to get it fixed properly.

^^^ Exactly what he said! I've never had any issues with mine...there must have been a design change or something in how they mount and secure the cap to the cab top. BUT...go to the extra measure and take it to Wakarusa. There's a lot to see and do while there also. Dealers don't know the details of how these are put together at the factory. Thor does. The guys at the warranty shops have seen EVERYTHING. They're favorite saying...."we don't build them but we're experts at fixing them". While there, they will do a "once over" and check everything else they can find and re-tune everything. I've been there...I know!

I might have a fab shop look at it.

I really don't see a reason to have the factory do the same to it, but more of the same, that allowed it to fail.

My bet is under $1,000 will get you the bracing and fishplates that are REALLY required.

If making Thor pay for it because it's under warranty is an ethical choice, carry on.
But
If you want it done so it is never ever a problem instead of the their process of 'more screws' find someone who builds offroad equipment.
At least have the Fab guy give you an idea about a forever fix.

It's a kit,
Your/Thor's financial shortcut is failing.
Get it fixed for real and forever.

Just an idea.
I don't put up with any shortcut taken by an entry-level cube-dwelling cad operator who is on a severe budget.(I'm sure they did the best they could with the budget afforded them)
I
FIX
it.
Example:
My rotomolded bins, held up with a few screws into a super thin skin of wood-ish material, have been replaced with steel welded to braces bolted to the frame. They will/have hold 900lbs, are heated(tank thermoststic heaters on the floor) insulated(kiln cloth) and have scuppers installed in case something leaks inside/venting. My Rfid locks are ready to install.
It just wasn't in the engineers budget to do it right and it won't be in Thor's budget to fix it right.
I did not go to Thor about my bins and have more screws added or whatever their budget allows.

If it was my coach and still under warranty I would take it back to the factory and let them fix it. Then I would sell it. If it was not under warranty, I would get the drawings for the coach and then find a fabricator to do the repair.

Today I spoke to a brand new, first time out, Magnitude owner.
He was at the beach dump station emptying his tanks
He has no idea what he may be in for.

I suggested to him that he sign up for the Thor Forum immediately, and keep a watchful eye on his front end cap.

Needless to say, he was “beaming” abt his new RV.
Absolutely loves the Ford 550 diesel.
