Ford E450 Factory Brake Controller

We are looking to add a brake controller for the trailer we tow with our 30FE. I have seen reference to the factory control being mounted where the change slots are but I have not been able to find real information. Anyone have experience with it? I would like to consider using it instead of a stand alone unit.

Where does your chassis manual tell you to look? A number of years ago in my Class C on a E 450 the manual told me it was behind the coin slot.

That is the harness to connect to the plug at the rear. I am looking for the actual Ford controller that is integrated in coil slot panel.

There was no integrated controller. You had to buy your own and plug it in. You should have received a cable pigtail to assist in wiring a controller to plug into the Ford harness.

Certainly a separate controller is a good option and probably where I will end up.

Ford made the integrated brake controller available on the E450 v10 until 2016.

I had a 2013 Class C on an E450 and it did not have an integrated brake controller.

The operative words in the owner's manual, which is worth the read, are "If Equipped". The exact section heading on page 127 under Towing is

"Integrated Trailer Brake Controller (If Equipped)"

Search on and good luck with the hunt.

Right, not standard equipment, which is why I am searching.

Here is a link to the part for the 2016 and older for reference in case someone is looking.

"If Equipped" that controller would be in plain view on the dash. In the Ford F Series where it is installed it is right next to all of the other outfitter connections on the lower part of the dash or on the overhead console depending on options package. On the E Series passenger vans I have rented, it replaced the coin holder (if equipped) and more than likely that is why the connection is behind the coin holder.

Thor as well as most Class C manufactures did did not purchase the brake controller option on the cutaway chassis. There may be a few exception because a chassis or two were equipped and Ford had to use them for a contract delivery requirement to Thor.

Basically, if you can't see it, your rig is not equipped.
