USB stopped working
I have a dual USB along side of my bed. I plugged in a small USB chargeable fan and turned fan on
After a few minutes the USB stopped working. No 12 volt fuse blown. Took USB off wall and no visible fuse behind it
Any ideas or past experience with this?

It is possible the fan was drawing more current than the USB power supply was capable of delivering and it burned it out. I think they are only capable of 2A max. You can find replacements online. I bought a couple spares to have on eBay.

I would think that if the fan was made to be charged by USB then there wouldn't be an overcurrent issue.

I don't know your coach but most stand-alone USB charging stations are powered by 12 VDC so GFI probably doesn't come into play.

Any chance the USB is good and the fan died?

Otherwise, pull the plate and check the voltage. You may just find a loose wire connector when you do.

Ohh, and AMAZON has all kinds of 12 VDC powered USB charging plates.

I just had a very similar experience. The charging port on the boss' side of the bed died. I pulled it out of the bedside thingie, and there is voltage going to the unit, but nothing on the usb output side. My conclusion is that the port electronics took a powder. It looks like a cheezy unit.

The dealer is replacing it under warranty while they do the cap. If they keep crapping out, I'll replace them with beefier units.

You also want to look at the wattage of a USB charger and not just amps.

You can take an iPhone charger and try using it to charge an iPad and while it will start to charge it, the charger will get very hot l, it will take a ong time to charge and eventually it will fry because the iPad battery demands more power to fully charge than an iPhone battery. The iPhone charger is 10W and the proper iPad charger is 40W (depending on the iPag model).

The USB ports used in these coaches are bare bones….. 2A and about 10W.
