Cracked Shower

We just bought a Thor Tranquility, and have taken it campping 3 times. We love it, all electronics work great, battery, inverter etc.... Problem is we noticed the floor in the shower is cracked and the crack is traveling. We have not used the shower at all l, but are concerned with the cracking. Has anyone else had this issue? Do we just caulk it and call it good?

you'll want to drill the ends of the crack to stop the crack from growing further.

Caulk may be fine, I'm not sure what would adhere best to the material. Silicone caulk would probably be my first try, fill behind the crack as well.

just my 2 cents...

Why would it crack? Lack of support. Any "repair" will just be a temporary band-aid unless you fix the cause of the problem. The existing caulk says there has probably been an on-going leak. No telling what the support wood looks like underneath it now.

Outside of replacement I'd use the white gorilla tape or eternabond (sp) tape. If it works on the roof, it will surely work on the shower floor. Cracking is caused mostly from shower items (shampoo bottles or bars of soap) falling while driving.

We've only had the coach for few weeks. We have never used the shower or the faucet in the bathroom at all, so should not have any water/rot issues. We just happened to look down and notice the cracks....

Is this a brand new RV? If it is have it replaced under warranty.

It should absolutely be covered under warranty. We are in Montana, do we have to drive it all the way to Indiana?? Or can the dealer we bought it from fix it?

It's always dangerous to generalize, however any self respecting dealer should service what they sell.

It looks like the pan needs replacement, and the supports improved, as others have said. You can do a spot fix in the field, but it will get worse until it's fixed.

Good luck!

I would start with your dealer. They will need to start the warranty process with Thor.

You never said if it was brand new or a used coach "new to you". The caulking around that area does not look like factory work. It is possible there was a problem before you bought it and someone tried to fix it. Did you buy it new?

Yes, we bought it brand new... Amazingly crappy job! Anyway, our dealership called us back, and they are going to take care of everything! New shower pan, and fix the sides as well. Yay!!

If the shower pan cracks due to a bar of soap or bottle of shower falling into it then I, at 270lbs, would be in the rv basement if I stepped into that shower.
I'd be more inclined to say there's no, or not much, support under it. The assemblers at the factory will punch a 4" hole with a hammer to run a wire through, so a plastic or fiberglass shower may have nothing under it by the time they cutout, or break out a chunk, for a 1 1/2" drain pipe.
Glad your dealer is handling it for you.

Well, it happens. The installer probably broke it during.instsllation with no reason to.care any further. Those are as thin as.egg shells anyway.

If it were me, I would put an Eterna bond tape band aid on it, finish the fishing/camping season and then let your dealer have it.
