Why not just take the front cover off and see? I’d guess it’s easy to fix and/or not a problem but it would only take a couple,e of minutes to do it yourself. The longer the list you give to a warranty repair visit the greater the likelihood that they won’t get to it all. And they’ll probably start with the easy stuff.

Good morning,

Thinking about installing front CSS-1195 and rear Sumo springs.

Anyone install the fronts and was it easy like the rears?

I did review the install instructions.

Also, what jack weight size are folks using to raise the rear on one side?

Cheers

Hi Roadrunner

I carry a 8 ton bottle jack that I bought at Harbor Freight as a safety unit to hold up one wheel along with my hydraulic leveler. I like having at least two safety items holding the weight.

Thanks Paul,

I was catching up reading all the posts in this thread and noticed folks are getting 15 - 18 mpg.

We took our first long trip down to the Gulf coast (200 miles one way) and going down running between 65 and 75 got 12.6 mpg, coming back I tried to keep it under 65 and the dash fuel mileage gauge still says 12.6mpg. When I fill up I will double check the mileage.

Our 2020 Thor Compass 23TW has the 2019 Ford Transit 350HD chassis.
6 speed transmission, Ford 3.2L I-5 Power stroke Turbo Diesel.

BTW, water tanks are empty, tires inflated to spec, not over loaded with stuff and only the wife and I with 3 15lb dogs.

Does this mileage sound right?
We just turned 2000 miles.
Weighing the RV is on my list.

Cheers!

Hi Roadrunner

Your mileage may be about right since you have the turbo diesel. I have heard good things about the Ford Chassis/engine. My coach is built on a Mercedes Benz Chassis and as long as I keep it 65 I can increase the mileage a bit. I seldom drive 65 so my mileage suffers. When we travel, I only fill my fresh water 1/3 to 1/2 since we usually stay at night at full set up campsites with water. We use the onboard water for the toilet while on the road. No need to carry too much weight in the fresh water tank on the road. We are set up to go from Southern Calif. to Riverton Utah just after Christmas to visit some friends for a week. We stay the first night at the Casa Blanca Casino R V Resort. Nice place to stay and it only runs $33.00 per night with full hook ups. I did change out the factory bump stops and installed Sumo Springs which reduced the side to side sway while on the road(passing trucks, in/out of driveways...). Easy install.

Gas Mileage

We own a 2019 Compass (on a 2018 Ford Transit chassis). When I picked it up, it was showing about 12 mpg (have to do a bunch of conversions from Canadian measures.) Thor drove it across country to Vancouver and probably used interstates. It had about 2000 miles on it when I picked it up.

But since then, we've taken it on several longish trips. We now have over 25,000 miles on it - mostly through mountains. I stay off interstates - take my time and enjoy the trip. We very seldom go over 60 mph - most of the time closer to 55 mph. Our diesel mileage has averaged between 15.5 to 16.5 mpg.

My observation - your gas mileage will decrease dramatically once you go over 60 mpg.

Apparently there is a huge amount of variation in mileage between otherwise comparable units. I keep reading about folks getting 10-11mpg in 30+ foot class A’s but in the 3 I’ve had I always get 6-7 even with great effort to improve it. Likewise my friend with a Transit Gemini gets 12-13 with stories of 18 that he’d like to match. I don’t worry about it anymore. Mine is what it is.

Thanks all.

Another item I noticed when we used the shower for the first time.

There is about a half inch gap in the corner of shower wall and floor pan.

Not sure how far up the floor pan goes, to prevent water from getting in between the shower wall and under the floor pan.

Should I bring the up at my next scheduled warranty appt?

Is that US or Canadian mpg? Just kidding, you should calculate the fuel used per mileage on your fill ups. The computer only estimates and is not 100% right. We travelled from northern Alberta to Arizona and back last March and calculated every tank and averaged 18mpg with our Gemini diesel and we were packing heavy with a 34 cu ft box on the hitch.

From what I have been reading, the gap is to allow air to flow between the shower wall to reduce condensation between the r v interior wall and shower wall. It has been said that condensation can build up between the shower insert and r v interior wall which can cause damage to the r v wall.

Thanks Paul, talked to Thor about other things and they had no information, so I'll bring it up at my next service.

Another question I couldn't find here about the refrig, we have the 3 way, N512.3.
Noticed while traveling that the refrig temp went up to 50 deg. from normal with the setting on 1 (9 being the coolest), source set to auto.

Thor was saying that 12v only controls the refrig light and not any cooling.

Is that correct and you have to switch it to propane to get cooling?

The manual said on 12v that the refrig what not as efficient as propane or 120v.

Lastly what number are folks using 4 or 5 on the refrig?

Thanks all great information and help!

I haven’t seen a 3 way fridge in ages. Typically they’ll run on gas or AC with 12V being used I both modes for the control circuit. But it shouldn’t particularly get warmer when driving. It should switch to gas automatically (if you’re set on auto, of course) but if the gas fails to light - which happens often enough - it’ll certainly get warmer until the next time it’s plugged in. There should be a tell light though that shows you if this has happened. Does this always happen?

3 way fridge

Our Compass came with a Norcold N510.3 3 way fridge. So not exactly the same as your fridge.
I don't have a thermometer inside - so don't know how much (if any) the temperature rises on 12 V. But we run ours on auto with the setting to 4 or 5 and if it's really hot outside I will increase it to 6 or 7. I usually turn the propane off at the tank while driving. I know it's probably not necessary - but that's the way I was taught and I keep doing it.
Our fridge stays cold - even after a 8 to 10 hour day of driving. Nothing melts in the freezer. Beer's cold. Ice cubes still frozen. We've had no problem.
With that said, I always use either 120 or propane to bring the fridge to temperature. And it's always either plugged in or on propane every night.

Hi Roadrunner255

The refrigerator should operate in either the propane mode or 120v electric mode. If you set it to the auto selection it will determine which mode is best with 120v being the best to operate as long as you either have the coach plugged into shore power or have the generator running to supply 120v power. If there is no 120v power detected then it automatically switches to the propane mode. If it fails to light under the propane mode, the operating light will usually start to blink alerting you that it failed to light. You can then switch it to propane or turn it off and then back onto auto mode to go through the sequence again. When I am on the road, I usually do not have the generator running(unless it is very hot outside) and just go to the propane mode before heading out. I double check the operating light to make sure it shows it is working(no blinking light). I usually run the refrigerator the night before leaving from our house to cool it down and set it to a higher setting while on the road. If I leave it near the 8/9 setting too long, it starts to freeze everything. Not usually a problem on the road but when parked for long periods of time it can freeze everything inside.

I agree with Yukongrant, we run ours on Auto and only turn on the propane when needed and the fridge runs on shore power when plugged in and when we are travelling its on DC (12 Volt) Usually set at 4 but if its real hot outside go to 5. Have had a 3 way fridge in all of our MH`s and probably would not buy one without it. As Yukon said the beer is always cold and the ice cubes never melt unless of course its in a drink !!!!!!

HELP
2020 Mercedes Gemini won't go

Went to the winter storage to charge my battery. No issues. Ran my rig for 20 mins idling. Shut off. Clicked the key fob to lock the doors, no response. Tried to start again, nadda. Just an electric buzzing sound from underneath the to the rig.( Driver's side)

Went home as brought back spare key fob. Nothing. No dash lights, no door unlock just that buzzing sound for a few seconds each time I try to do something. Open the door makes that sound too.

Any ideas? Anyone? Yes all warranty but hate to tow it in the middle of the winter here from storage....

Mine is the Ford model but I wonder if during your recent "storage check" did you activate anything that might deactivate your ignition? I am thinking awning or slide not toatlly retracted or any leveling componet? Some things do trip your "drive away" ablity until properly in the "store" position. Good luck troubleshooting! Nancy

Anyone know when the Thor Gemini / Compass 2022 model changes are coming out? Wondering if they are going to bring back the inverter, outside TV or go back to 2 batteries. They have gotten rid of all of these in the 2021 model.
