Tellaro 20L hanging closet experience

The hanging closet in our 2022 Tellaro had hinges that were so badly attached that the doors threatened to break loose when we opened or closed them.

After some research, I learned that they used a frameless cabinet hinge in a cabinet with a face frame. So half of the screw holes had nothing to attach to. A photo of the as-built hinge on the right-hand door is attached. Note all the holes with no wood behind them.

I epoxied some white oak blocks where there should have been attachment points and screwed the hinges into them. Problem solved.

It's just not fair.

So, many avoidable mistakes in so many situations, design, engineering, manufacturing and zero quality control.

Nice fix, I'll keep an eye out for this happen to me.

I'm beginning to think with the Pandemic builds , they may have had supply issues & used what ever they could find , not making excuses for Thor , but its been crazy to find some things when nothing or no one is working to make & have in the supply chain .

Not just hardware...it seems they had a complete 'out of stock' on common sense.

Followup to Closet Mod in Tellaro 20L

These are some pictures I took of the shelves and hinges after reinforcing the hinge mounts and putting adjustable shelves in the closet.

A word of caution: nothing in that closet is square. I cut the shelves against a rip fence and a crosscut sled, and they don't fit very well. I'm going to epoxy some wood blocks under the ends of the shelves, where we currently have them.

Good work , I made a Thread about these hinges & used Aluminum Channel ( could find the square Tubing size wanted at the time ) & I reinforced the entire Hinge side of the double overhead cabinet with it , plan to do all the Cabinets & hanging closet also .

It was your thread here that got me thinking , & yes it hurt !

One of my overhead cabinet doors just ripped out of the particle board where the hinges were screwed in. Sort of. Someone placed the screws right at the edge of the particle board so after some opening and closing the whole area just broke out.

I moved the hinge a bit over to a still undamaged area and centered the screws. They are also a bit short for their purpose.

On a different note - how would I go about getting a Thor replacement cabinet door (non-warranty)? Do they sell parts directly, or just have to find a dealer who will not hang up on me?

Our doors never closed correctly, reported it and the dealer replaced some hinges. Still doesn't close quite right but better. Now I know what the real problem is and will see if I can fix it. Thanks for your advice.

I saw a post (think it was on FB) where the person strapped the two doors together, removed one set of hinges (those nearest the front - so the door opens into the bathroom).

I found the reason why, while I was standing close to the bathroom door, I reached over to open left the closet door...I was positioned in just the right spot to take right in the head (lucky no damage to the door). Made it worse, couldn't reach anything without going into the bathroom.

I was adding this to my project list, glad I read this, probably need to beef up the hing mounts.
