VIN comes back to a 2007?

I ran my 2009 Thor Four Winds Hurricane through emission testing today and the VIN says it’s a 2007 (2007 Ford to be exact). I know it is a Ford chassis and engine but why is the year 2007? Am I to assume it took 2 years to build and the sell the RV?.... Seems a bit too long to me.

Considering the downturn in the economy and particularly the RV industry at that time I would easily say that is possible.

Yup! That seems like a pretty reasonable possibility...
Nobody was buying anything back then...
I'll bet that Thor got a GREAT price on all of those leftover chassis too!

The coach could have been built in early 2008. The chassis was a late 2007, by the time it's bought, transferred, sits in line a MH lot, runs through assembly ect it's very possible to be 6mo old at that point, especially during that recession time frame. Motorhome manufacturers are allowed to list a coach built as early as June 2008 as a 2009 model year. Next time your at a RV dealer take a look at mfr tags vs window sticker. I've seen Dec 2016 chassis with April 2017 coaches listed\advertised as 2018 model years this summer.......Krazy what their allowed to get away with, keeps them from having "leftover" sales I suppose !!

According to my VIN the chassis is a 2014 (Challenger we are trading). All my paperwork from Thor that came with the coach (build sheet, spec sheet, option sheet, dealer sheet, etc.) show it as a 2015 model. The original owner actually purchased it during the 2015 model year. It was still under engine/trans warranty until a couple months ago for me as second owner. However when it was originally titled in Illinois they had to make it a 2014 instead of a 2015.

My 2018 Thor Freedom Elite I bought just last August has Ford chassis that has 2017 VIN.

Chassis is usually a year behind the coach year. We have a 2017 coach but the chassis is a 2016, this is common thru all manufacturers.

Very true, our current Gemini, is a 2017, on a 2016 Mercedes cutaway chassis. Our former DP was a 2006, on a 2005 Freightliner chassis.

Regardless of the year(s) of the pieces: it's the year listed on the Title that matters...
(Mine says 2018...)
Don't let any DMV Office try to tell you that the year of the chassis is the one to use!

Subject of split model years comes up often. It is addressed by Federal Law and supported by the RVIA. Year of completed manufacture is basis for registration. Use this document to resolve disputes.
