110 vs LP Hot Water Heater

Hello again. Still learning but getting there.

Are there two physical water heaters on here? Or is the 110 v one a part of the gas one? The control panel has the switch for LP and 110v but when I turn on the 110 switch I do not hear any relay closing or anything happening. So far as I can see, the 110 v water heater doesn't do anything. Next step in my quest is to figure out where the electric water heater is.

Thanks, as always!

It's part of the same heater. Are you trying to use it without being hooked to shore power, ot having your generator operating?

So if you've got AC power coming into the coach: check the fuse panel, and make sure that nothing has popped...

If hooked to shore power or generator just turn "elec" switch on, if needing faster recovery of hot water turn both gas, be sure gas valve for propane is open & electric on.

So nothing popped on the fuse panel. Does the 110 take longer to heat the water than the LP?

Generally - yes.

The 120 VAC is just powering a heating element in the same water heater - it may use a relay, but usually you can't hear any sound when switched on.

It is powered by a breaker in the power distribution panel - not a fuse.

If the heating element is burnt open it will not heat water.

Thanks all. I am going to try to use the AC and see if we can get hot water. Maybe I do have an element burnt open

Let's hope that you find yourself in the right kind of hot water...

If you have a Suburban Heater you must turn on the electric switch that is located behind the outside cover of the water heater. Bottom left corner. Some heaters are gas only. You will not hear anything when you turn on the electric heater.

Look outside for a vented 12 x 12 square cover. Then go inside and find the heater behind that location.

The electric side of our water heater did not work during the PDI and shakedown. Jayco replaced the entire water heater during our factory service visit. Works great now.

How did you convince them to hook up to a water source for the PDI?

I wouldn't sign anything until they proved both sources of water (fw tank & city connection) worked to my satisfaction, if not find a dealer that will.

My dealer had water, sewer and electric available for the PDI. 5 stations with sewer, 30 and 50 amp and water. Their new building has 4 indoor bays dedicated to PDI and 5 FHU stations.

I know it has been on here before and since the subject is back once again MHSRV has a covered area with numerous sites for the day or two PDI with full hookups and a patio.

Gives you a chance to check everything and if needed stay the extra night depending on any repairs or replacements

There is a huge difference in dealers as well as the prices
