Air compressor for rv tires

Anyone using an inexpensive air compressor to inflate rv tires? Need some suggestions.

I have the VIAIR 450P-RV Silver Automatic Portable Compressor Kit (45053) and it is fantastic!

It has two hoses for the longest coaches or trailers and a loy of accessories.

The only problem is that I bought it for $250 3 years ago and now its $390.

Me too and I really like it. Small as a shoebox, lightweight and powerful. If the price is too steep there is a similar model for about $100 less that differs mostly in not being rated for continuous operation. Not a big shortcoming for most folks.

I use this Ryobi tire inflator and it works great on my bicycles, car tires and 80# RV tires. Cheap for me because I already had the battery and charger for my drill.

X2 on the Porter Cable. I’ve been using the 135 PSI version for about 8 years. Works great for my tires at 105 to 110 PSI

I use the Bostitch 6 gallon pancake... pretty much equivalent to the Porter Cable, just yellow paint instead of red.

The issue is it takes a lot of storage space (on the road). It's bulky. But I can't swallow the price places are charging for the convenience of portables. I will eventually go to one of the much smaller/quieter/lighter one gallon hot dog compressors.

Another vote for what gramps uses. A pancake that goes into the 130 psi range works great.

Depending on the RV you have, use the onboard compressor system. We use to carry a unit but added the connectors and now use a 50 ft hose and inflator with a gauge to check the pressure. As long as you can get the high pressure needed, almost any compressor will do - price and weight, and footprint are a matter of personal preference. Get what works.

Here is one

https://www.thorforums.com/forums/f1...-rv-29477.html

I will allow the thread to speak for itself, although my conclusion was in post #50 https://www.thorforums.com/forums/sh...7&postcount=50

Good luck, if you have questions let me know.

Project Farm review shootout. I choose the Home Depot $35 compressor based on this great review.

Almost all Class A Diesel pushers come with the connection up front, which is actually to air up the bags for a tow.

However as you do and I as well, it is my back up for emergency air. I keep the hose and connector in the tools compartment.

I don't like to run a 450hp compressor burning 5 bucks per gallon fuel to check my tires so I use my Vair for that. Initially I had my Porter Cable onboard but when I didn't and still don't have to add air on trips it stays home.

Diesel pushers. Class A gas do not have air compressors and do not have air connections or air bags.

I think I would also point out that 450 hp compressor is a long ways from the 1/2 hp Makita that I use. Yes, I could start my generator, but I do not have to because it has never gone over 300 watts. I run off Inverter.

After using mine; I made notes of few takeaways in post #60

https://www.thorforums.com/forums/sh...3&postcount=63

You can see the Makita Air compressor is right next to the Inverter. At less than half the cost of the Vair, but yet capable of doing all things plus my other maintenance like blow out and around the house activities; while so quiet you almost cannot tell it is running.

For the record, in my class A, the batteries are under the steps; so it is kind of hassle to get to, it can be done; but since I put the AGMs in; I never need to go in that compartment any more.

As mentioned about the Ryobi cordless, I have a few Makita tools and the necessary battery and charger.

Food for thought and something to keep in mind with those small portables is max run time and minimum cool down time. At under 30 psi in 10 min of max run time and 30 mins of cool down it would take almost an hour to put 60 psi in a tire. A 135 psi pancake will get you there in under 5 mins

Again, just food for thought
