Basement storage odor

I have a 2019 Miramar 37.1 and when I open some of the outside compartments there is a plastic odor inside of the storage area. Does anyone have this odor condition. It seems to be in the forward three compartments. Could it be the material that the tubs are made of or something else ? I bought new and the odor has been there since delivery.

As long as you're not getting a musty odor: my guess is that it's just the plastic that those compartments are made of.
But to be safe and sure: empty them out, and wipe them down with a disinfectant. Let them dry out, and then see if you still notice the odor.
Good luck!

Plastic smells like plastic. What's the problem again?

So the smell has been there since purchase and delivery? You have contacted the dealer who sold this to you correct? If not, why not? I would think your first call would be to the dealership that sold this to you.

Basement storage odor

Originally there was a very slight leak from the propane hose going to the H/W heater that has a connection in one of the compartments. It was hard to differentiate the slight odor of propane in the compartment from the plastic odor . The hose was changed but the plastic smell is still there. I ran the furnace and shut the tank valve off to empty any propane in the line in case there was still a leak. Aired out the compartments and then closed them up. Still a plastic smell. Have tested the compartment with two different gas detectors but no alerts or positive reading for propane.

I have a similar issue. A bottle of black tank cleaner spilled in one compartment. I’ve tried washing and airing out but smell is still so strong makes my eyes water when I open it up. Suggestions??

A very generous layer of baking soda a half inch deep or so might work. Leave it in there for a week or morem
It's a fifty fifty chance.
The other Fifty is that the plastic will never quit offgassing,

Anyone here ever own a first generation Camry?
Those dashes offgassed for years and years.

Do like Duck says and if odor persists, maybe throw a couple of those Christmas tree air fresheners in there.

Are there any engine exhaust pipes close to the back side of the compartments? Heating the plastic can make it off-gas more rapidly. But as others have said, those rotocast plastic compartments will ALWAYS smell like plastic to some degree.

Agree with Duck. A generous use of baking soda... you can even make a paste with it and coat the plastic. Close up the compartments and leave for as long as possible. Even washing frequently with dish detergent will help... I do that a couple times a year, and I don't notice any odor at all.

Empty compartment and spray with diluted bleach or a disinfectant. Poet stand for a while and then rinse
