Basic Question

I know many folks have a variety of opinions regarding toad favorites and preferred methods for towing.

I own a 2017 Windsport 29M v10 with the F-53 18,000 chassis & I also have a 2018 Ram 1500 Longhorn Laramie 4x4. While researching different vehicle option to use for towing, I literally stumbled on a few articles about RAM 1500 4x4 manufactured to allow for 4 down towing.

Question: Has anyone else with a v10 selected their RAM for a toad? Obviously a DP can tow this easily so I’m trying to see if anyone has experience doing this and outside of western mountain grades, are their other concerns to be aware of.

I think it really boils down to weight. My jeep weighs 4000lbs and I dont even know it's there

I’m was really surprised to see RAM, Ford and GM manufacturers planned this into their 4x4 design. I thought I already have a vehicle to tow and it’s only my DW and two pups. Anything steep or scary I can just disconnect and she can drive the truck if worse comes to worse. I’ve seen several with our design and v-10 pulling double tandem trailers on bumper hitches. I have two other cars, 1 front wheel drive the other all wheel drive. If I don’t have to trade them in then I’ll be in RV Heaven! Lol
Thanks Jerry, hope all is well

You need to get your MH weighed, ready to camp. Your RAM is pushing 5500 lbs empty. You should have an 8000 lb hitch but you can only tow 5000 lb if your MH is at GVWR, So you need to be under 17,500 lbs for the MH, in order to pull that RAM and still be under the GCVWR of 23K.

The V10 will pull it but you will know it's back there. When pulling my Sonic (2700 Lbs) I can forget it's back there but when pulling my wife's Colorado (4500 lbs) I can definitely feel the difference.

We towed our Jeep liberty many miles with our V10 and it was never an issue. Tow/haul keeps the down hill manageable and climbing wasn't a problem over the California grapevine. We were in Arizona on our way to sedona and the grades were interesting. Don't need to worry, we had a hurricane 35M at the time. We have a Vegas 24.1 now with more horses and torque so not worried now either

I agree Paul. THe v10 has plenty of power to pull the jeep. But I also agree you need to get everything weighted to make sure your legal. THe mh will tow it but I always say be legal. And make sure your brake controller works well. My Ready Brute Elite works great

Much appreciated and definitely sound advice to be sure. I’ll be getting the MH weighed to be sure all is legal and safe as can be for everyone. I’ll never forget my driving instructor, way back last century; repeating with each lesson.....”driving a car will become easy; being a defensive driver, takes concentration and complete dedication”

We're using a roadmaster invisibreak and it's been golden, never an issue
But yes, pay attention to your weights.

We owned a 2016 Thor Miramar 35.2 and looked tow a 2016 Ram Laramie 4X4. We weighed the Ram and found it was heavier than we expected than the Miramar was rated to tow by about 400 lbs. This was the bare Ram with 1/2 tank of gas. With the MH loaded ready to start a journey and carrying anything in the Ram we would be definitely over the MH ratings. At the time living in northern Iowa and frequently driving in MN, it was an issue as MN frequently will weigh the setup and issue fines to those over the limit.
