Changing house battery

Hey everyone,

House battery won't hold a charge, bought a new 12v and am about to swap it out for my first time. Do I have to disconnect the solar charge controller? I'm not sure how to even do that since I don't see an on/off switch on it. Thor Delano here.

Also I just want to make sure, I disconnect the negative first, then the positive, then take the old battery out, put new one in, and then positive first, then negative?

Am I missing anything? Thanks in advance

Mike

Take many pictures before you disconnect anything.

As DF said, take pictures, mark all cables even better
Unplug from SP
Keep the solar positive lead from touching any metal

Otherwise you've got the procedure down.

You shouldn't have to disconnect the controller. I suggest unplugging the panels up on the roof at the main connector that goes down thru the roof. There is no on/off switch for the controller. Just be aware that you may trip the main battery circuit breaker when you connect the new battery. It's usually mounted close to the battery compartment. Mine is mounted on the frame rail below and just aft of the battery box (under steps). A small yellow or red flag will be extended down if it's tripped... just push it back up to reset.

Like Duck said ... take several pics before removing any cables.

When I replaced mine, the breaker tripped along with a few fuses. No biggie... just track them down.

Thank you all for the input. Put the new battery in, didn't electrocute myself and the rig didn't catch on fire. It was a good day [emoji1787]

12 volts probably won't electrocute you... unless some bully makes you touch wet fingers and your tongue on the battery posts... .
