I wish the prices in Texas were inflated, I would put mine on the market.

A nice used class A I considered buying 6 months ago is now $30,000-$60,000 more than it was then. They are marketing real junk like Coachman for top dollars. It is my prediction this buy frenzy will fizzle out come Nov 2021. Driven down by those dumping the RV they bought because it is not what they thought it would be, they find it expensive to maintain and store, or they just discovered it's not for them. In any case I think the market will be flush again with RV's driving down the resale price. All those that are buying now will lose their shirts when the market drops as they are trying to bail out of their purchase.
So who is the Covid 19 generation?

New order price 32% off

Elkhart makes a ton of RV and the model I wanted was in Elkhart. I contacted an Elkhart dealer to place factory order Dec 7th. Got notice today unit will be ready for pickup Feb 8th. I’ll fly out Feb 15 to pickup. Figured I’d give them a week to dethaw it. Waiting a couple months saved me big bucks and I get one with zero miles instead of 2,300. Should be a nice shakedown cruise back to California.

So true! Just not to a guy like me. I’ll buy new or travel far for a deal.

We bought as soon as the bottom fell out when the covid lock downs were first put in place. It really worked out for us. I agree that around this time next year a bunch of lightly used coaches will go on sale and personally I am keeping an eye out for a diesel pusher.

We purchased a new XG32 last year in March when dealers were really struggling to sell anything because everything was locked down. We drove from Missouri to Florida and purchased the unit for $137k from Lazy Days when they normally go for $160k or more. Got very lucky on that purchase.

So how does that work for sales tax? Did you have to pay Indiana sales tax? Did the factory get you a temporary tag for driving back to California? And does California give you any credit for sales tax paid in another state?

I have thought about doing something like that - buying out of state - but never knew how all the pieces hung together.

Don’t worry about it. The dealers do it all the time and will make the arrangements for you. We bought our SOB from Camping World in North Carolina but live in Indiana. They collect the Indiana taxes and pay them for you. We just transferred our Indiana plate but they said we could have a temp NC plate if we’d prefer. CW was trying to outsource their paperwork to a company that slowed everything down but it still worked out ok. Everyone involved knew what to do, the outsource company just didn’t do it correctly or in a timely manner.

Hello I sold my 27 ft class A 2002 American clipper ( 6 months ago) I live in san Francisco bay area (had it for 9 years and i loved it). the idea was to look for an upgrade since my rig was 18 years old. What i found out is that in the western pat of the country rv's are overpriced. I shopped a little bit more then I found a 2018 Thor ace 30.3 in South Caroline it only had 6000 miles and fully loaded. Priced in the Low $60's. It took my sweet time driving home "about a month yay ". there is no shortage of rv's in some parts of country just be patient. do your homework to find out exactly what you want...... Happy hunting Al

Indiana collects 7% because the sale takes place there. They don’t care that I’m out of state. It shows in the invoice. California only wants the difference over the 7%. So california will get .75% on the sale. If I were to keep it outside california for a year then they want nothing. If that were the case I’d purchase from a state without sales tax and save all tax if not brought into california for a year.

I pick this unit up Feb 16, 2021.

It varies from state to state.
Arizona requires other states to collect Arizona tax on out of state purchases(drivers license and registered address specific)
I'm remembering six states requiring this.
So far, on half a dozen of my purchases, no state has made a dollar amount mistake in the collection.

Private party purchases do not have AZ sales tax no matter where purchased.

To buy from a dealer here it's about an 11% premium just for that privilege.
