Just to add to this conversation. I quickly looked up the above model number on the refridge. The N8DCSSR mentioned above is listed as a compressor 12 volt only refridge.
Is this an improvement over the propane capable ones?

It depends on what you're looking for and how you camp.
The compressor fridge uses more electricity than the absorption version. Thus if you dry camp much you'll want larger batteries than you would with the absorption model.
However, the compressor version doesn't have to be as level as an absorption one.
Compressor version may not be as susceptible to high altitude as well.
